April 2012. 13:48. Somewhere in the sky above Manhattan, New York.

Third Person POV.

-Star?.- Tony's voice came through Sophia's comms. They had been flying for at least 15 minutes and now they were arriving at Manhattan, just a couple of minutes away from the tower.

-Tony? Where the hell are you?.- Sophia asked, her voice laced with worry as she turned to look at Steve in front of her.

-I'm almost at the tower. The suit's not hanging on that nicely but I'll make it.- He said and at the sound of a gasp coming the other way, he grimaced.

That was not the best line or thing he could've said to his sister while flying ten thousand feet in the sky.

-Tony, please for the love of god, make it safely to the Tower, we're on our way there.- Sophia said as she turned to look out of the window.

-I'll be okay, I just wanted to check on you. I'm gonna go now, I'll meet you in a few.- Tony said and before Sophia could answer her brother, he hung up.

Sighing, Sophia placed a hand on her forehead. Steve looked at her and saw her leg bouncing up and down. A nervous tick of hers. He wondered if the tick was for what they were about to do or because of Tony. Nonetheless, something always tugged at his heart when Sophia was nervous. He didn't like when she felt anxious because he felt like he couldn't do anything to help her.

As they reached the Tower, no one really said too much. Sophia turned to look at Steve, his face serious in thought staring blankly at the wall, and then spared a glance in Nat and Clint's direction. Turning back to the Captain, she took a deep breath.

-I'm sorry.- She said, her voice barely above a whisper. Steve's head snapped towards her and he frowned.

-Sorry? Why? About what?.- He asked, confused at the apology.

As far as he knew, she hadn't done anything to him, to hurt him, she didn't say anything bad towards him, nor acted meanly towards him, so why was she apologizing?

-If I had known that you were going to be brought back to another war this soon, I would've prevented it from happening.- Sophia said as she lowered her gaze to her hands.

Steve's frown deepened a lot more as he stared at the agent in front of him.

-Sophie...- He tried to say but trailed off when she spoke again.

-I never meant for you to be back into something like this so soon.- She said quietly. Turning her head towards her friends, she saw them talking among them so she knew they were not listening to her. Taking a deep breath she continued. -When I suggested you for the initiative after we found you, it's because I knew that if it came down to it, you were our best option, the best person we could turn to if we needed help.- Sophia said and Steve looked at her. -I suggested you because I knew the kind of man you are, always willing to help everyone that needs it.- Sophia shook her head as she made a pause.

Steve's mind was working so fast right now. Why was she apologizing? Yeah, she suggested him for the initiative, but he was not mad about it. On the contrary, he felt honoured that she had thought of him as the right person for the job. Why did she feel sorry?

-But I didn't think that a threat was going to be as close as this one. I never knew or thought that it would come this soon and I'm sorry that I put you in here, enlisted you to fight another war after you just basically came back from one. I never meant for you to be dragged back into a mess like this again, when I know the first and last time were not easy. I'm sorry I messed up your chance at living a normal life.- Sophia said as she kept her gaze on the floor, not able to meet Steve's eyes.
