Doctor Who: Future (season five)

1.1 - Evolution Of The Cybermen

In a flat:
A woman wakes up.
Becca: Christ.
She sees a silhouette of a man in a duffle coat & hat at the end of the bed, she blinks & he disappears.
A woman comes in.
Eva: Morning love!
Becca: Jesus mum, don't you ever knock?
Eva: Sorry!
Becca: No matter, I'm awake now.
Eva: You getting up for work?
Becca: What time is it?
Eva: 7.15AM.
Becca: Damn it! I've got 45 minutes! Get out so I can get dressed Jesus!
Eva runs out, Becca opens a cupboard.
In a coffee shop;
Barista: Hi, what can I get you?
Becca: A flat white please & an espresso shot.
Barista: On it!
Callum: Hey!
Becca: Hey!
They kiss & hug.
Callum: Your a bit late aren't you?
Becca: It's one day, Alan won't care.
Callum: True, Why don't you meet me for lunch?
Becca: Would love to, but I can't.
Callum: Oh?
Becca: Busy, babe. Very, very busy.
Barista: One flat white & an espresso shot?
Becca: That's me! Cheers!
She kisses Callum on the cheek.
-Love ya!
Callum: Love you too!
Barista: What can I get you today, sir?
Callum: One large hot chocolate, actually no, two large hot chocolates.
Barista: Two large hot chocolates.
Callum: Yeah.
Barista: Brenda!
Brenda: What?!
Barista: Two large hot chocolates!
In the tube station:
Becca taps her oyster card.
Becca: Morning Josh!
Josh: Morning Bex!
She runs to the escalators, she bumps into a woman.
River: Watch where you're going!
Becca: Sorry!
The Doctor: Did you detect the disturbance?
River: Yeah, this way.
They jump onto the escalators, The Doctor & River run down them, The Doctor brushes past Becca.
Becca: Real mature! Idiots.
On the station:
Becca walks onto the platform, she sees The Doctor & River, The Doctor pulls out a pink wand with a green tube running through the middle, a white light flashes on the top it, Becca raises an eyebrow.
-London.
She sighs.
The train pulls up, Becca gets on.
On the tube:
The Doctor & River are stood on by the doors.
The Doctor: Hold on!
A white light flashes through the carriage.
On another world:
A white portal opens, the tube flies through.
On the tube:
Becca: What the hell?
Suddenly the doors blast off & Cybermen begin to storm inside.
-Cybermen!
The Doctor & River join hands & run.
-What the hell do you know?
She runs after them.
Cyberleader: You belong to us now! You will become like us!

In the wasteland:
The Doctor & River run with Becca behind them.
Becca: Hey! Slow down!
The Doctor & River stop.
River: You escaped.
Becca: Damn right I did, you both know something so start talking now.
River: Doctor?
The Doctor: The tube train we were on was pulled through a portal-like creation by a race known as The Cybermen.
Becca: Yeah, I know what they are.
The Doctor: You do?
Becca: Yeah, I do. I remember them storming into the people's homes, I was just a kid when that happened. I'm not stupid, I don't choose to just forget about the invasions of Earth like everyone else.
River: I see.
Becca: You two know exact what's going on, so speak.
The Doctor: It'd seem that The Cybermen have a new way of going about the process of Cyberconversion.
Becca: I don't understand.
The Doctor: They're taking trains full of passengers to put them through.
River: Although there's a small tiny snag in their plan.
The Doctor: They've chosen to harvest the victims on a dying world, a dying world which is on the brink of collapse, as they continue to build their cyber-army, they're looking for another world to purge.
Becca: & use a Cyberconversion base.
The Doctor: Exactly.
Becca: So what do we do?
The Doctor: 'We?'
Becca: I doubt that your gonna throw me to the wolves.
The Doctor: Come on then.
Becca: Greenwood. Becca Greenwood.
The Doctor: I'm The Doctor.
River: Professor River Song.
Becca: Doctor Who?
The Doctor: Just The Doctor.
River: Believe me, that's the most you'll get out of him regarding that question, I've been trying for years.
The Doctor walks away, Becca & River follow.
In a cave:
Becca: So this is where the Cybermen are operating from, yeah?
The Doctor: Presumably!
River scans the area with a device.
River: Traces of steel ahead.
The Doctor: Lead the way!
Becca & River follow The Doctor.
In a room:
A door opens, The Doctor, Becca & River enter.
Becca: Oh my god.
There are multiple people in glass-windowed boxes going through cyber conversion.
-That's vile!
River: All these people, they were on the train.
The Doctor: They're undergoing cyberconversion.
River: Look at that.
A pool fool of blood is centred at the middle of the room.
Becca: Blood.
The Doctor sonics it.
The Doctor: Human blood.
Becca: What is that?
The Doctor: Sonic Screwdriver! Never go anywhere without it!
Becca: What does it do?
The Doctor: It-it does s-stuff.
Becca: Cool. 'Stuff' is cool. So what do The Cybermen want with blood? If they're clearly storing it.
The Doctor: The Cybermen don't need blood.
Becca: Look, that guy in there, he looks like the most advanced.
The Doctor: Cyberconversion is nearly complete.
Becca: There's nothing left. Just his brain & bones & eyes.
The Doctor: That's the inside of the Cyberman. Becca: What do they do with the skin?
River: What?
Becca: The skin, they're saving the blood, but there's two vacuum like things in these conversion chambers.
River: She's right.
Becca: Presumably one vacuum extracts blood, what about the other?
River: Where does that vacuum lead?
The Doctor sonics it.
The Doctor: Into this cupboard here by the looks of it.
The Doctor opens the door to reveal a freezer like contraption full of the skin of the Cybermen's victims, River gasps, Becca vomits, River runs to her & holds her hair up.
River: You ok?
Becca: That's sick.
The Doctor: Look at that, there's a flame at the bottom.
River: Like they're melting the skin, but why?
Becca: They're melting human skin & they've got a pool of blood, why?
The Doctor: Evolution, perhaps?
River: What?
The Doctor: Blood & skin.
Becca: Why is this chamber clouded?
Becca presses a button.
The Doctor: Be careful!
Becca: Aye aye captain.
The clouded screen fades to reveal a humanoid creature slowly forming.
-What the hell?
River: A metal frame.
Becca: Hang on. It's a steel skeleton. It's got one tube pumping blood & one pumping the melted tissue.
River: They're attempting an entire new phase to make Cybermen.
The Doctor: Oh that is clever.
River: Evolution.
The Doctor: Desperate evolution.
River: How do I turn it off?
The Doctor: Don't. The Cybermen can't know that we're here.
River: Maybe that's the best way to understand what they're doing.
Becca: We don't need to understand it. It's simple.
The Doctor: It is?
Becca: The Cybermen are attempting some new line of evolution, this planet is dying, maybe they are too.
The Doctor: I think it's time we met the enemy.
The door opens, The Cyberleader storms in, with two rusty Cybermen behind him.
River: Those Cybermen. Their suits are rusted.
Becca: Yeah! So they are dying then?
River: Potentially.
Cyberleader: Doctor! We meet at last.
The Doctor: Unfortunately, yes. So this new scheme of yours, is it some kind of new warped survival strategy?
Cyberleader: Affirmative.
The Doctor: So, steel skeletons & harvesting human flesh & blood, my guess is that your attempting a whole new level of evolution, am I right?
Cyberleader: You are correct.
The Doctor: You've touched down on a dying world which has also caused you to rust.
Cyberleader: We are determined to survive no matter the cost!
The Doctor: But why reuse flesh & blood? Why not just create a silicon wall around it?
Cyberleader: Doctor, our resources are limited by this dying world, we are dying out, The Cybermen are dying out, we created the metal skeletons with what we had, even cannibalising our own bodies.
The Doctor sees chunks of steel missing from The Cybermen's casings.
The Doctor: I see. Have any of these experiments been successful?
Cyberleader: We are about to find out.
They all turn to look at the chamber that holds the most advanced subject, the doors open & a pink humanoid creature with black eyes & handles sticking out of their head, they walk robotic like.
Becca: That's sick.
Cyberleader: It is evolution!
Becca: Is it?! To me it's devolution.
Cyberleader: Blasphemy!
River: She's right, your originals would be horrified.
The Doctor: My friends, even to The Cybermen this'd be classed as wrong.
Cyberleader: Ah!
The Cyberleader screams & thud on a pipe, the pipe bursts.
-No!
The Doctor: Whoopsy Daisy! Someone did an oopsie!
The Doctor turns to Becca & River.
-Run.
They run out.
In the wasteland:
Becca: What did you do?!
The Doctor: Made him smack the pipe that transports the skin into the conversion chambers! This planet is on the brink of collapse, any second now!
The ground begins to shake.
River: Come on! Back to the tube!
Becca: Will it get us back?!
The Doctor: Hopefully!
On the tube:
The Doctor, Becca & River jump into the tube. The Doctor sonics the emergency button, it sparks.
The Doctor: To the driver's carriage! Now!
In the driver's carriage:
They run in.
Becca: Can we get out!
The Doctor: Yes! Hold on!
The Doctor sonics the console & presses a button, the tube rushes off as a white light fills the carriage.
In the underground:
Announcer: The next train arriving at platform 2 is to High Barnet.
The tube rushes through, The Doctor, Becca & River get off.
Becca: All those people.
The Doctor: Yeah.
Becca: They're dead!
Worker: Where's the driver?!
River: He got off at Kentish Town & just let the tube run on it's own! We had to break the door down to stop it.
The worker runs over to the front of the tube.
-Come on.
Becca: Hey!
Outside of the tube station:
Becca: Doctor! River!
The Doctor: Go home, Becca. This life isn't for you.
Becca: What? So I'm supposed to forget about today? The Cybermen?! All those people who died?! The alien planet! I can't forget that, christ i-i-if I told anyone what I saw today I would be locked up & the key would be thrown away, I am not gonna let THIS run away from me.
The Doctor: What are you saying?
Becca: I wanna come with you both, if that's ok.
Becca looks at River.
River: Better off asking the captain of the ship, he hates it when I make decisions without him, even though I can fly the TARDIS better.
The Doctor: (through his teeth) Shush River.
River: So, Doctor, what'd you say?
In the TARDIS:
The Doctor & River enter, Becca follows.
Becca: What the hell!
She laughs, River smiles.
-It's bigger on the inside! How is that possible?!
The Doctor: Time & Relative Dimensions In Space - TARDIS.
Becca: This is my life now?
River: Yep!
Becca: Wow.

NEXT TIME:
The Doctor: Becca Greenwood, I present to you, The Amazon Rainforest!
Becca: Wow!
Marshall: There is something very wrong with the birds in the Amazon rainforest right now.
River fires her gun.
A Bird flies at The Doctor.
Woman: If that's who I think it is, then we're all saved!
The Doctor: I know that voice.
Jo: Hello Doctor.
The Doctor: Jo Jones.
