1.8 - The Hatman

SIX MONTHS AGO:
A car horn blares, a man & a woman lay unconscious in a car that has been flipped over, Becca wakes up.
Becca: Dad?! Dad! Wake up!
Woman: What happened?!
Becca: I-I don't know! I think I accelerated too fast!
Woman: An ambulance is on it's way! Try not to move, you might've broken something.
The scene cuts to Becca sitting on the end of an ambulance.
Police Officer: Could you-
Becca: My name is Becca Greenwood. I am 23 years old, raised in Gospel Oak, North West London. My mother is Eva Middleton, My father - Chris Greenwood, my brother Alex Greenwood.
The paramedic comes by.
Paramedic: We tried to revive him. I'm sorry.
Becca cries as a body bag is zipped up.
NOW:
In the TARDIS:
Becca: We were heading to Blackpool for a father daughter day out & I accelerated too fast on the accelerator & caused the car to flip, the paramedics said that as soon as the car flipped over, his heart gave out, I never even got to say goodbye.
The Doctor: I'm sorry.
Becca: A few months later I went to psychic because the fact that I was the reason why my father died was eating me up & I just felt like I was drowning & I had no one to turn to. Absolutely no one. I went to psychic & I had no luck but when I got home, I-I started to hear things & see things move in the corner of my eye but I just thought it was stress related. But until one night, I woke up feeling that someone or something was watching me.
The Doctor: & what happened?
Becca: I looked up & I wish I never did.
FIVE MONTHS AGO:
Becca sits up.
Becca: Hello?
The silhouette of a man in a hat appears at the end of Becca's bed.
NOW:
There was a man in a hat... a silhouette of a man anyway just standing there at the floor of my bed just standing there, he had red eyes & I thought maybe it was my dad, because the man was wearing a fedora hat & for months I thought that was my father until-
The Doctor: Until what?
Becca: He started to get violent, he'd pull me of off of my bed at night, or throw something across the room or he'd appear whenever I was just about to trip over a misplaced pavement, until one day he appeared at the top of the stairs at my mum's house & I walked up the stairs & i suddenly felt this force just throw me down the stairs & that's when I realised that that thing was not my father. But it was something demonic.

ONE MONTH AGO:
In a medical clinic:
Nat: Thanks for coming, what's up?
Becca: You're probably thinking I've had some kind of problem with taking my medication or the trauma of the accident returning but it's not that.
Nat: Then what is it?
Becca: I've been seeing this man.
Nat: Right.
Becca: At night, I'll wake up & there's just this man in a hat at the end of my bed just staring at me.
Nat: & does Callum see this man?
Becca: I asked him if he ever wakes up feeling like someone is watching him but he just laughed it off, as he does. Typical man.
Nat smiles.
Nat: A man in a hat?
Becca: I know how it sounds but, I thought at first it was a premonition of my father or something but then it wasn't until it basically threw me down the stairs that I realised that it wasn't my father but something evil & something so hateful.
Suddenly the Hatman appears behind Nat.
Nat: If you see The Hatman, run.
Becca screams & runs out.
NOW:
Becca: My therapist, she told me that if I saw 'The Hatman' then I should run.
The Doctor: & it appeared behind her?
Becca: I don't know what it is, but I need it seen to, because I can't carry on like this, it is draining me, I am terrified.
The Doctor: Have you been seeing it in the TARDIS?
Becca: Yeah.
The Doctor: I can feel something, Becca.
Becca: What kind of something?
The Doctor: A presence of evil.
She gasps.
Becca: It's there now.
The Doctor looks.
The Doctor: I can't see it, why?
He fades away.
Becca: He's gone.
The Doctor: Why can I see it?
Becca: I've been thinking about going to see a clairvoyant, not a psychic.
In Camden loch:
The TARDIS materialises, The Doctor & Becca step out.
The Doctor: Do you know where she is?
Janine: You needn't look further
Becca: Woah.
Janine: I knew you were coming, follow me.
They go into the stables & into a hatch, Janine closes a curtain.
Inside:
-Now... I can sense that there is someone else with us.
Becca: Yeah, there's this thing that f-
Janine: Oh I know. I can see it.
Becca: You can see it?!
Janine: A man in a hat & a duffel coat.
The Doctor: I've seen this before.
Becca: Where?
The Doctor: Gallifrey... in the matrix, I saw the man in the hat with the duffel coat standing by your bedside, h-he was reaching out to you.
A bed appears in the darkness, Becca is asleep, a shadow of a man in a duffel coat, with red eyes & a hat appears next to her bed, he reaches out for Becca.
Becca: What is it?
The Doctor: Something inhumane.
Becca: Demonic?
Janine: No. Definitely not demonic, more a creature of another world.
Becca: Another world?
Janine: The Hatman is a Midnight Entity from the Midnight Realm.
Becca: Midnight Realm?!
Janine: The place that exists between Heaven & Hell, where the universe decides your final resting place.
Becca: And this thing it's come from this Midnight Realm?
Janine: Correct.
Becca: Oh my god.
Janine: The death of your father, you went to a psychic, however this psychic wasn't the real McCoy, it was someone conning you out of your money, this caused The Hatman to come into this world & latch onto you.
Becca: But why me?
Janine: Because you're vulnerable, you still blame yourself for your father's death, These entities they thrive on vulnerability.
Becca: Oh my god.
Janine: The Hatman has latched himself onto you, he won't stop until you're dead.
Becca: How do we get rid of it?
Janine: We go into the Midnight Realm.
Becca: What? I-is that safe?
Janine: Becca if you could sit down.
Janine puts a record on, Livin' In The Sunlight, Lovin' In The Moon Light by Tiny Tim plays.
Becca: Ok, that's unnerving.
Janine: Ok, Becca I need you to take my hand, ok?
Becca nods & grabs Janine's hand, Janine puts a gas mask on.
-Now, close your eyes & let the music calm you.
Becca: That music is more unnerving than calming.
Janine laughs.
Janine: It puts you more on edge, meaning that The Midnight Entities are more likely to try & get you. Now let the music take you away & listen to the sound of my voice.
Becca: Ok.
Becca closes her eyes.
Janine: 1...2...3...4...5. Wake-up.
In the midnight realm:
Becca opens her eyes, she sees Janine standing over her.
Becca: What the?
She turns her head to see Janine still sat down wearing the gas mask.
Janine: Welcome to the midnight realm.
Becca stands up to see herself still sat in the chair.
Becca: I don't understand.
Janine: You are having an out of body experience.
Becca: Oh my god. W-what about The Doctor?
The Hatman: Becca.
Becca: Can you hear it?
Janine: Hear what?
Becca: He's here.
Becca slowly turns her head, The Hatman stands behind her.
-Janine!
She screams as he grabs her neck.
In the overworld:
Becca's eyes twitch.
The Doctor: Save her!
Janine: Oh dear, I believe it's too late.
In the beyond:
-Leave her alone!
Becca: Janine!
Janine: Leave her body now! Leave her body! I order you!
The Hatman smiles as his sharp pointy teeth become visible. Becca screams.
-Leave this vessel in peace!
The Hatman: Becca...
Becca: It spoke!
The Hatman: Mine...
Becca: Go to hell.
She punches him in the face, he falls back.
-You can't hurt me anymore! There's no more grief for you to leach of off!
She kicks him, he fades away.
Janine: You did it. You defeated him.
Becca: & I am so proud of it.
They hear roaring.
-What's that?
Janine: Other Midnight Entities. We must return to our physical bodies at once. Come on!
They run to a table where they are sat, Janine sits down, she fades away, Becca does the same, she fades away.
In the Overworld:
Becca & Janine wake up, Janine takes off the mask.
The Doctor: Well?
Becca: He's not gonna be an issue anytime soon.
She smiles, they laugh & hug.
The Doctor: Thank you, Janine.
Janine: No worries.
Becca: Well, we should get going,
Janine: Wait.
Becca: For what?
Janine: Your father. I can contact him.
Becca looks down, the scene cuts to them sat around the table, holding hands.
New Year's Day by Taylor Swift plays.
-I am calling out to a Chris Greenwood. Chris? Are you there?
Becca: I-
Chris: (through Janine) Yes. I am here.
Becca gasps.
-Grape, are you there?
The Doctor: Grape?
Becca: It's what he called me when my mum was pregnant, because I was the size of a grape.
-Yes, dad I'm here.
Chris: (through Janine) Hello.
She laughs.
Becca: I'm so glad you're here.

New Year's Day stops playing.

POST-CREDITS SCENE:
Becca leaves the tent.
Becca: Don't tell The Doctor that I asked this because he's anal about time & stuff.
Janine: Go on.
Becca: What's in store for me, in the future?
Janine takes Becca's hands, she closes her eyes.
Becca starts crying.
Suddenly the floor collapses & Becca goes down.
Becca: Doctor!
The Doctor: Becca!
The Doctor grabs Becca.
Becca: Doctor don't let go of me!
The Doctor: Hold On!
Becca: I have to stop this!
The Doctor: You don't!
Ace blows up the other Daleks.
Becca: Ohila determined it!
Becca looks at The Doctor.
Janine gasps.
-Janine?
Janine: I'm sorry, Becca. But for you, a bigger loss is about to come. Bigger than the loss you have already suffered.
The screen goes black
