Max's POV
My phone ringing woke me up. I quickly answered it. "Hello?"
"Max, I'm sorry about calling you this late, but I need someone to talk to," Alyssa said as soon as I answered.
"About what?"
"Diana kicked me out after we had a big fight."
"About what?"
"She wanted to kill Alex and I wouldn't let her."
"So she's mad at you?"
"Yeah."
"Let her cool off. She'll come around."
"What if she doesn't? I don't like fighting with her."
"Try to apologize tomorrow at school. She'll forgive you eventually."
"But when?"
"I can't tell the future. Just let her go to you."
"Yeah, you're right."
"Great. Now can I go back to sleep?"
"Yeah. Thanks, Max."
"No problem. Good night." I hung up and snuggled back into my bed.

"Hey, Max," Diana greeted.
"Hi. Alyssa called me and told me that you guys had a fight."
"Yeah. I don't want to talk about that right now."
"Well, you're going to. Why do you want to kill Alex?"
"Because he dumped me and that's why I disappeared," Sarah told me.
"I didn't know. I'm sorry. Why did he dump you?"
"Because he knows that I'm not being totally honest."
"The secret."
She nodded. "He thinks that I don't trust him. I trust him with my everything."
"We know. We won't let you tell him for your safety."
"I know. I just want to tell him everything."
"And you can't."
"Can we talk about this later? I want to talk about happy things."
"Yeah." We started talking about random things. We walked past Alyssa's house and I stopped.
Diana looked back at me. "What are you waiting for?"
"Our best friend."
"You can wait. I'm going ahead."
"Isn't that a little extreme?"
"No, she betrayed me. I'll see you at school Max." Diana started to walk on.
I sighed and followed her. "I don't feel right about this."
"Then wait. I'm just not going to."
"You're being a jerk right now and I don't like it."
"Neither do I," Sarah agreed.
"You're turning on me, too?"
"You turned on Alyssa."
"That different."
"How? I would like for you to tell me how that's different."
"She betrayed me and I've done nothing wrong."
