I swam into the moon pool to see my mom and Dalton talking while they waited on me. "Hey, guys. So, Mom, how are we starting this lesson?"
"I don't know. Which power do you two want to learn the most?"
"I want to learn how make invisible things visible. That sounds like a really useful power," I replied.
"Yeah, especially with our friend group," Dalton added.
"Okay." She went through the process of making someone or something invisible visible again. (I'm not going to put how their powers work because I'm awful at describing things and I'm not even sure how they'd do these things. Sorry!)
We kept learning how to do different really cool things until we had all of our special powers down.
"Any more powers you've kept from us?" I asked after we learned how to create a tornado.
She shook her head. "Nope, I think that's it. Do you guys want to stay and do something together?"
"What do you have in mind?" Dalton questioned.
"Maybe a swim or something."
"Well, we spend a lot of time out here and I feel like we're neglecting our friends. No offense," I commented.
"Yeah, we love you, Mom, but we need to spend time with our friends too, you know."
"It's fine. I get it. Go spend time with your friends. You'll be back tomorrow after school, right?"
We both nodded before swimming out of the moon pool. We got to the beach and started steam drying our tails.
"Do you feel bad for leaving Mom to hang out with our friends?" Dalton asked as we stood up.
"A little, but we did have lives before we met her." We made our way toward the café.
"I know, but we do need to get to know her. She is the person who gave birth to us."
"We spend almost everyday with her, Dalton. What I said in the moon pool is true. We're neglecting our friends. We can't sacrifice our time with our friends, specifically Max and Cameron. We're spending so much time out at Tremp that we've forgotten what it's like to socialize." I ran a hand through my hair to push it back and Dalton started staring at my left hand. "What? What is it?" I followed his gaze to my ring.
"Where'd that ring come from?" He could be such an over protective brother sometimes.
"I got it from Cameron last night."
"Why is it on your left ring finger, where your engagement and wedding rings go? Is that an engagement ring?" He grabbed my hand gently, but firm enough that I couldn't pull it free.
"No, it's a promise ring. Hopefully at some point, it will be replaced by an engagement ring, though."
"So, he basically proposed to you?"
"No. It's not a proposal. He knows that I'm not ready for that kind of commitment and he's not either. Calm down, Dalton. It's not like I'm ever going to be with anyone else. I can't love anyone else and neither can he." I yanked my hand hard enough that I freed it.
"I'm sorry. I'm just worried about you."
"I know and you don't need to be. You like Cameron, right? You guys were friends last time I checked."
"Yeah. We're friends. I trust him, but you come before any of my friends."
"That's sweet, but stop it." We got to the café and walked over to the table everyone but Alex and Diana were sat at.
