I turned the mystery mermaid around and was shocked at who I saw.

It was Tammy. What?! I dragged her to the surface and the others followed. "You're a mermaid?!" I yelled.

"So are you!"

"How?"

"I became one a couple days ago. How are you mermaids?"

"Last full moon."

"Where?"

"Moon pool. You?"

"The pool that you guys found."

"How did you become a mermaid without the full moon?"

"This." She held up a necklace with a stone identical to ours.

"We have necklaces identical to that, but we found them in the moon pool."

"This is how I'm a mermaid."

"Is there any way that you could stop?"

"Why would I?"

"Because the water is our turf."

"Now you have to share it."

"No we don't." Alyssa yanked off Tammy's necklace and her tail disappeared.

"What have you done?!"

"You don't deserve the power that comes with being a mermaid."

"Give me back the necklace or I'll tell everyone about you."

"They'll never believe it."

"They will once I show them your tails."

"You wouldn't dare," Diana narrowed her eyes at her.

"But I would." She smirked.

"Let's talk about this on shore," Max suggested. We swam to the beach not far away.

As soon as all six of us were dry, Tammy blinked and shook her head. She looked back at us. "Why am I here? What am I doing with you losers?"

"You know."

"No, I don't. What happened?"

I shared a look with Dalton, Max, Diana and Alyssa.

She doesn't remember. Don't tell her, Dalton mind messaged us.

"We were talking about a project. You just showed up," Dalton lied.

"I'm going to go to my friends. See you at school, weirdos." She walked off.

"I can't believe that she doesn't remember that she was a mermaid."

"It was only a couple days."

"That must be what happens when you stop being a mermaid."

"Must be. I hope she never finds out for real though."

"That would be bad. Let's go back to the guys."

Everyone nodded in agreement as we walked back to mine and Diana's house. The boys were sitting and talking. Their heads snapped in our direction the second we walked in. "Did you catch her?" Cameron asked.

"Yeah. It was Tammy. She's not a problem anymore, though. She was only a mermaid because of this necklace." Alyssa held up the necklace that had been yanked off of Tammy's neck. "We took it off, dried off, and she forgot everything about being a mermaid."

"It was that easy?" Thomas asked, not believing what Alyssa had said.

"It was that easy. Can we forget about this now?"
