Alyssa's POV
"Where is Dalton? He should be back by now." I plopped down on the couch next to Maddy.
"I'm sure he's fine. He said he'd be back by moon rise and that's two hours away," She comforted.
"I know, but he's been gone for a really long time and he hasn't tried to contact me at all."
"He's not usually in contact with you at all hours of the day. He does his own thing sometimes."
"Yeah, but not on a full moon, especially one that's so important."
I felt a chill go up my spine as a vision started. I was trapped in a water tentacle and I couldn't move. A crowd of guys my age stood in front of me. The one in front of the rest held up his hand, controlling the water. The guys must've been mermen. I was terrified of what they had planned.
"Alyssa, what is it?" I heard Maddy ask.
"Dalton's trapped in a water tentacle by a bunch of mermen. We have to go help him." I jumped up off the couch.
"Alyssa, we can't just run in blind. We don't know what's going on or why they have him trapped. We need to know how to handle this or we could end up just like him."
"How do we do that?"
"By spying. We use our invisibility to get close and listen long enough to figure out their plan."
"Good idea. We need to go now because the sooner we get there, the better." I ran out of the house and Maddy followed.
"Where are we going anyway?" Maddy panted.
"Dalton's house, near the water." Once we got close, Maddy and I turned invisible and tiptoed up closer to the boys.
"What if your plan fails?" Dalton asked, gasping for air.
"Well, it won't. What the trident wants, it gets. And what it wants is you. It will get you and there's nothing you can do to stop it."
Dalton, can you hear me?
Alyssa? What's wrong?
I should be asking you that question. I got a vision, and Maddy and I are here, at your house. Why did they capture you?
Because I think the trident is evil and they want the power it gives mermen. They're holding me here until the moon rises, so I'll go under the spell and lead them to where I hid the trident.
That won't happen. I'm here and we trained with Maddy, so the moon spell doesn't affect us.
But it wasn't the moon spell last month, remember? We were together and I was still affected. It's something different that no one can help me with. You have to leave before I go off the deep end.
No, I'm not going to just leave you here to do their will.
Please, A, I have to know you're safe from my wrath. I don't want you to get hurt when the moon rises. Go hide somewhere even I can't find you.
I don't think that's possible, D. If I'm here, maybe I can help mitigate the effect that it has on you. It did last month.
But that was different. We were inside with our friends and I wasn't staring directly at the moon. Plus, you're severely outnumbered. You might not be able to save me, sis.
Are you forgetting that we have extra powers that they can't even fathom? We have to try.
We can't do anything as long as I'm trapped in this tentacle, so unless you have a plan to get me out, we're stuck.
