VINNY'S POV
I have been feeling a terrible weight on my chest for the past few hours. My parents and siblings had left to attend to other matters after visiting us earlier, and I was now alone in the room. I stroked my son's hair, feeling extremely sorry and blaming myself for failing to protect him.
" I'm so sorry, anak. " I said quietly, my voice breaking with sorrow. " I'm such a bad father; Daddy failed to protect you." My son was still sleeping, utterly unconscious of what was going on around him.
I tried to fight back my tears, but they just wouldn't stop. I felt alienated and overwhelmed, and I had no idea how to deal with everything that was going on.
Just then, my phone rang, and I saw it was from Amethyst. I wiped the tears from my eyes and looked at my son, who was still deep asleep.
" Hey... " I said, attempting to sound composed. I got up and walked over to the window, where I could see the scenery outside my son's room.
" Hey, I heard what happened; how are you doing?" she said, her voice laced with concern. I took a deep breath and turn my back to see whether my son had awakened, but he was still sleeping.
" I'm fine.. " I lied. I didn't want to burden her with my problems, but I was grateful for her concern. " Are you sure? You sound upset. Vinny you can always talk to me. I'm always here to listen... " Amethyst said through the phone.
I took a long breath, attempting to keep my tears from falling again. " It's just been a tough day. " I admitted shakily. " It's okay, Vinny. " she said. "You don't have to go through this alone, I'm always here for you."
Her words brought me a small sense of comfort." Thank you, Amethyst. That means a lot to me. "
" Of course... " Amethyst said and walked back towards my son's sleeping figure and caressed his hair affectionately.
" i love you... " she said and I stopped caressing my son's hair at what she said. " w-what? "
" n-nothing. Bye Vinny. Say hi to Liam for me when he woke up. I- I need to go. Bye " she said and ended the call, I can't help but smile. " I love you too my bunny.. "
" dada? " I heard my son speak, my eyes widened and I hurriedly rushed towards my son.
" hey buddy... Do you need something hmm? " I ask while caressing his hair. He shook his head and closed his eyes again.
" dada where are we? " he asks as he opens his eyes again. " nasa hospital ka anak. Do you remember what happened to you? " I ask slowly. He slowly nodded his head.
" the lady who crashed in mama's was there. And a scary man who keep talking to me in hatred and said his going to shoot me.. " my son said and I cant help but clench my fist in anger. " did they something to you? " he shook his head.
" she wanted me to go with her. But i don't want to. " my son said and I hugged my son while patting his back.
" dada? "
"Hmm? "
" I want to go home... And where are uncle sansan, si, papa and mama? " my son asked me, I chuckled and ruffled his hair.
" all of them are working right now but i assure you they'll come here soon. I should give them a call then. " I said and give his head a kiss. " I'll go call the doctor first muna. And ask when you will be discharged here sa hospital. " I said and he nodded his head.
" i love you dada. " my son said when I was about to open the door, I turned and gave my son a smile. " i love you too, anak. "
