The best thing I could do for Malaya during the car ride was to be silent. Assuming she hadn't eaten breakfast, I pulled into the parking lot of Kelly's and got out.
When I didn't see her doing the same, I turned "You coming?" I asked.
She looked away before silently exiting my car- it seemed like she was in thought.
The two of us walked into Kelly's and ordered breakfast, we still had an hour before we had to go to school- and so we decided to sit inside the diner rather than eat in the car.
After getting our food- and iced coffees, we sat at a table by the entrance- Malaya sat in front of me without saying a word while sipping her coffee and taking small bites of her eggs all while looking down at the table.
"Laya- if you wanna talk..." I began in a soft reassuring tone, "You can tell me anything".
She looked up at me before looking back down, "I know Tabitha" Her voice was still hoarse, "I know".
A silence fell over us and all I could do was sit there- I couldn't force her to talk to me.
But I could be there for her until she did.
I continued to eat my breakfast until Malaya finally spoke, "I snuck out last night".
My brows cocked up, "you did?"
"Yeah..." she looked down- and I could tell she was trying not to smile, "I- I uhm made a new friend- sort of- she doesn't talk much but..." Malaya looked out the window in thought, "It felt like she understands me, ya know?"
Not really. But I nodded anyways.
"I think mom and dad are getting a divorce" she looked up at me, "so what will that mean for us?"
"I don't know" I whispered, "but Malaya- I'll always be your sister- on your best days- and even your worse- I'm here" I placed my hand on hers reassuringly and she just smiled.
"I know..."
I smiled, "So about that new friend of yours" I began in a teasing tone to lighten the mood.
A small blush cane over her cheeks, "there's nothing to it".
"Oo someone's blushing" I teased, wiggling my brows at the brown-haired girl.
"Shut up!"
"You like her" I teased.
"I- shut up, Tabs".
My brows raised, "You didn't deny it".
"Can you drive me to school now?" She said in an attempt to change the subject.
Oh my gosh.
My little sister has a crush!
Oh my gosh!!!
"My little sister has a crush!" I almost yelled- getting looks from people near us.
"Oh my god" she whispered and buried her head in her hands, "shut up".
I gasped and hopped up, "Come on- we have to get you to my future sister-in-law now".
"I'm going to murder you in your sleep" she growled.
