When Hope woke up the next morning at dawn, she placed her hand over the vile to make sure it wasn't a dream. Thankfully it wasn't a dream, it was all real. Hope carefully packed away her new pajamas and changed into her normal clothes.

She walked down the stairs and into the living room. There were bottles all over the floor, crumbs everywhere, and something smelly in the bathroom. Hope took a sigh of relief that the pig and his father were gone.

She cleaned up the mess and started cooking her father breakfast. He slowly walked out, obviously hung over from last night. "Good morning father, I made breakfast for you before you go off to work." Hope told him politely and softly. He nodded and sat down at the table. She quickly set his plate down in front of him. "Did you win?" She asked him as she started cleaning around the kitchen.

"No, I did not as you well know." He grumbled as he ate his food.

Hope glanced at the clock. "You have work in twenty minutes. Shall I pack up the rest of your breakfast for you to take along?"

Willian looked at her like she was an idiot, a look he gave her very often. "No. I am going out tonight. Clean some of my nice shirts for me." With the final command, he stood up and walked out the door. Hope heard the familiar sound of the heavy lock on the door lock. He always locked the door so she couldn't leave the house during the day. Hope breathed a sigh of relief that he was quiet that morning. She cleaned up the house and washed her father's nicest shirts for him.

Once she did all the housework she walked up to her room and opened the window. Hope thought back to Peter standing there. She watched the other kids outside running around having fun and laughing. She never had that chance to have any friends of her own. Her friends were the stars in the night sky and the few books in her room. Hope put her hand on the vile.

"See Hope, we're not alone anymore." She told herself. "We have a new home waiting for us in a few months. Fe will be there and so will Peter. We won't have to be scared anymore or locked away. We can go outside and explore, have real fun." She leaned out the window a bit to get some fresh air inside.

Hope waited up every night for Peter to come back. With her father gone every day, she could get the housework done and sleep in the day. She would be up all night waiting for her only friend to come back. Tonight was the third night, the night he promised to come back. All Hope had to do was make it past this dinner with her father and she would be sent to her room for the night.

"Are you even listening to a word I'm saying?" Her father asked as he hit his hands on the table suddenly.

Hope jumped and looked back at him. "Yes father, I am." She told him softly. He had a very bad day at work and he was taking it out on her again.

"You should be more grateful to me. I am the only thing keeping you off the streets." He glared at her standing up. Hope gulped and nodded, her hands shaking in her lap.

He walked over to her and pulled her up by the arm. Hope struggled against his grip, it was painful. Hope knew there would be a bruise there soon. "You're going to bed without supper and staying in your room all day tomorrow!" He yelled, making her stop struggling. Hope followed without a word, not daring to look at him as he led her up the stairs.

Her father shoved her inside her room. "Do you understand me?!" He screamed at her. Hope nodded looking down at the floor. She would not let him see her cry.

Her father slapped her across the face. The rock on the ring he wore cut her cheek. He slammed the door locking it behind him. Hope crumpled to the ground clutching her face. Over the sound of her tears, she did not hear Peter fly into her room and land.
