Chapter 66: The war is over

Hope walked to her locker working on the stubborn lock. Finally, it clacked open and She pulled her lunchbox out of her backpack. She took a step towards the library but shook her head. No. New school year new me. Come on feet. Hope thought as she walked to the cafeteria. She sat down at a small table for four by the windows taking out her book and lunch.

"Hey, Amelia. Mind if I sit for a sec?" She turned around and saw Jacob's friend Jason standing behind her. Hope nodded and he sat down. "Please say you know where Jacob is. Everyone has texted him like a billion times and he never responds. He hasn't come back to school. We're really worried about him."

Hope blinked at him and shook her head. "Wow, he really is bad at saying goodbye. Hate to be the one to tell you this, but he and his dad left town. A few days after the curse broke I got home and I got a note from him saying he and his dad were so unhappy, they wanted to forget. They are in New York. He got a new phone number and everything."

"New York? What do you mean they are in New York?" He asked, rubbing his head. "He was so happy, why did he leave?"

"He was really different before the curse. His whole family was. He and his dad always talked about New York. I have his new number, I can tell him to talk to you guys. But he won't remember the curse or anything. He will be normal Jacob. I'm sorry." Hope explained as he stood up.

Jason nodded. "Well thank you for telling me. How are you doing with him gone, Amelia? No one has seen you in a while. According to the rumors, people think you were killed by," He glanced around before whispering, "The Dark One. Since you lived with him during the curse."

She sighed and shook her head. "I'm alright, we actually broke up when the curse broke. But we said we would still talk. Honestly, you wouldn't believe me if I told you where I was. Names Hope now. Let's just say it was a crazy week."

"Move. You're at our table." Kelly commanded them. Jason walked away back to his other friends and Hope stayed sitting. "Maybe you didn't hear me over that ugly shirt. Move it worm."

Steve cracked his knuckles and people started looking at the five of them. No one questioned anything they had said since they found out Steve's father was a lord in the Enchanted Forest and Pagie's cousin was a princess. "There are plenty of other tables open. I am trying to enjoy my lunch. It's hard to eat if I have to talk to you." Hope told them not looking up from her book.

Zack raised an eyebrow. "Did the worm talk back to us? We learned a long time ago, you are just a spineless brat who hid behind her uncle. He isn't here anymore, is he? Probably kicked you out the second the curse broke."

"I'm sure that's where she was all week. Looking for a log to live in now." Paige laughed. "She sure looks like she has been living in the woods. Look at that nasty scab on her arm." A few people around them began to laugh.

Rule two, don't start a problem with anyone but sometimes you are allowed to finish it. Just end it quick or this is gonna end with them trying to start a fight and get me expelled or some nonsense. Hope told herself. With a sigh, she placed her bookmark in her book and stood up looking Paige in the eye. "That's not a scab you idiot. That's a scar and it has nothing to do with living in the woods. I have had a few of them over the years but it's never stopped me."

She pointed to the long scar on her upper arm. "That was from a duel against a pirate. This one on the back of my hand is from an arrow getting shot at me. I also have a bite mark from a mermaid on my ankle.

"Not that it is any of your business but the reason I wasn't here all week is because I was in the Enchanted Forest with Mary Margaret and Emma. Or as you would know them, Snow White and the woman that broke the curse on all of us. I've had it with you using me as your punching bag. So I will say this only once."
