Chapter thirteen: Date
With his eyes still closed, the blond loudly groans in frustration while moving his hand towards the device that rudely woke him up from his peaceful sleep. "Yes?" he utters after picking up the call, his eyes still fully closed.
"Do not tell me you were sleeping instead of doing your work, Lee Felix." the man on the phone raises his voice after hearing Felix's sleepy, quiet voice.
The boy moves the phone farther away from himself, his eyes widen. "Shit." he mumbles before moving the phone back to the side of his face. "No, sir. How could I be sleeping at this hour? I am just tired from working the whole previous night." he proceeds to lie, slowly getting up from his bed so the sound of the duvet wouldn't be so loud.
"How can you lie to me like that, Felix?" the older sighs before placing his head on his hand due to the anger he, now, feels. "What happened to you? You used to take on multiple cases and solve them in no time. And now, nothing. You've been on this case for over two months and you still know nothing about what really happened."
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Park! I really am. I just don't know where to begin. I tried to do multiple things, but they didn't go as I planned." the blond makes a pause before speaking once again. "And I'm not the only one who found out nothing about the case. Mr. Hwang had it, too. He gave me the case like it was brand new. He couldn't tell me anything that wasn't already on the papers."
"Yes, Felix. I already know that. But I had high hopes regarding you. You're the Lee Felix. Yet you can't solve a damn case?" a sigh leaves the older's mouth yet again before continuing. "I understand you might be going through something. Everyone does. But that's the point. Everyone goes through rough times, but they still get their work done. You didn't. If it takes more than two more months for you to solve this case, I'm sorry, but I'll have to fire you."
At the thought of getting fired from his dream job, the blond widens his eyes in shock. "No! Please! Only you know how much I worked to come this far, Mr. Park."
"That's why I'm giving you another chance, Felix. Do you think it's easy for me to fire such a good employee like you?" Felix's boss says before getting up from his seat to look at the view of the city in detail. "Like I said, if you don't bring in the murderers in maximum two months, you're fired." he says harshly before ending the call.
A deep sigh leaves the blond's rosy lips as tears threaten to leave his eyes. He never thought not solving such case would bring him to the point of getting fired. Of course, he could drop it and start solving other cases, but by the way his boss talked to him, he wasn't going to be allowed to drop it. Felix felt trapped. Like he had to do it even though he really didn't want to. Since the blond started to care about the boys, taking them to prison was definitely not an option. Even though the man knew they were real criminals, the intentions behind their crimes made Felix want to help them, to cover them up in everything they did.
With lazy, small steps, the boy steps out of his room and heads to the kitchen, his stomach already making weird noises out of hunger. A sleepy smile appears on his face when he's faced with one of the members who has a tired expression on his face.
"Good morning." he utters quietly before opening the fridge, his eyes, half closed.
"Morning, Felix." Sky says before getting up from the kitchen table. "What are you doing up so early? It's only nine." he says with a frown on his face while heading to Felix.
The blond widens his eyes and thinks about an excuse. "I have a date today." Felix replies to the other's question in a husky voice before getting himself a bottle of milk. "Do we have cereal?"
