M E S S I A HThe sound of sirens whispered in my surroundings to voice that its location was a few blocks down, as I continued to walk towards the back entrance to the club with the sun gazing down at me with heated intensity.
The sight of men standing by the door had me knowing that D had already arrived, and I was grateful for the fact since I simply wanted to do what I had to do here, so I could head over to the barber shop for my cut before it got too crowded.
"M," One the guys greeted at the door while the other simply offered a nod, and I mirrored the action of a nod as a response to them both, while simultaneously removing my phone from my pocket to hand the one that greeted with words. "Expecting?"
"No," I answered in reference to his ask if there were any important calls that would warrant him interrupting to hand me the phone.
No electronic devices when discussing anything illegal.
"Aitte," He expressed as I opened the door to step inside. The minute the door closed behind me the sound of the rushing cars and chatter died with it.
I quickly moved up the stairs that lead to the private area before going down the opposite one to enter the main club area, where I saw D sitting by the bar with his eyes trained on the rubix cube in his hands that he was toying with.
"That was a quick twenty minutes," D voiced without directing his gaze away from the rubix cube as I took my final steps towards him.
"I circled back and took the highway," I expressed while looking around the club. "Loyal not here yet?"
"Yeah, he here, he just around the back helping Peanut bring some crates up," He stated and I hummed as I moved to sit down next to him with my back pressed against the bar counter that he faced.
Seconds passed where the only sound that stood between us was the cube being shifted, and his occasional sounds of confusion and frustration, but soon those paused and his eyes met me. They met me with a certain heaviness that spoke silence, but breathed words that I knew his lips wanted to say.
I knew he was going to say it too because he was never one to hold his words. It was one of the many reasons that our friendship worked so well, our mutual honesty and bluntness. In a world built on lies it was refreshing to be given the truth effortlessly. It was almost—
"What time did you leave here last night?" He questioned and I smiled at his words as footsteps sounded, which had both of us turning our heads to see Peanut walking back in with Loyal following beside.
It's coming.
"Around eleven or twelve," I replied as they sent their silent greetings towards me out of respect for D and I's conversation, and I returned the silent gestures.
"With that woman you were with?"
There it is.
A small chuckle escaped me as I turned my head to meet his eyes that were already trained on me.
"No,"
"So y'all was talking the whole night and you ain't leave with her?" He asked and I sighed at that.
"Yeah,"
"I was surprised to see you talking to Shorty," Peanut voiced amusedly, gaining both our attention. "I thought you didn't like pussy the way you be clowning me,"
"I ain't the only one that be clowning you," I pointed out after a snicker.
"Yeah but D got a wife," He replied, earning small laughs from D and I, as he continued to collect the bottles Loyal handed to him to restock the bar. The ghost of a smile that stood on Loyal's lips voiced the presence of his laugh he wanted to release, but I knew he didn't because a part of him felt out of place being here with us. I mean the tension that ridded his body said it all.
