The smell of the food I was busy preparing lit my home a fire with a hunger awakening ability that had growls echoing from my belly. I was tired, stressed, and constantly being reminded that I skipped lunch.
RING!
RING!
RING!
The sound of my phone shouting from its spot on the kitchen island had me pausing my act of cutting up the vegetables I was busy preparing, to instead move over to it.
As I lifted the device into my hand, my gaze went to Keylen sitting on the L-section of my couch in silence with his homework on his lap, and the sense of discomfort and questioning it built in me had me preparing words.
"Keylen," I called out, and it had him turning on the couch to face me. "You okay?"
"Yeah," He replied in his usual low manner before returning his gaze to his work, but after all these years teaching I knew that wasn't the truth, so I sighed softly as my eyes fell down to the screen of my phone.

The knowledge that it was her had me answering the device, allowing the image of her laying in bed to meet my screen with a sleepy expression on her face, which I was sure mirrored mine.
"Hey," She greeted in a tired tone that came with a certain deep, raspy edge that I liked. It was like a naked version of her usual tongue with a bit more allure.
"Hey," I replied as I propped her up against the napkin holder on my kitchen island.
"You look tired, whatchu doing?"
"Cooking," I answered as I decided to bring my knife and cutting board over here instead since continuing the task where it currently was would leave my back turned to her.
"Can I come get me a plate?" She asked with a small chuckle as I lifted the cutting board into my hand, turning to return to the island.
"You look like you can barely stay awake much less drive all the way over here,"
"I was thinking you could come drop it off like my personal door dash worker," She clarified as I placed the cutting board and knife down. "Or do I gotta earn that?"
The hidden seductive tone in her voice that I had picked up had me smiling as well as lifting and turning my phone so she could see that Keylen was in the room with me, before I placed it to stand once more and she simply laughed.
"You just got home?" I asked her while taking the knife into my hand to resume my cutting of vegetables that I planned to plate with the food.
"Yeah I did about an hour ago," She replied and I smiled at her response since usually I would be given something vague in response to my words, but instead she gave me something in depth. It might not seem like a lot to some people, but knowing how she moved, it did to me.
"You look tired,"
"I am," She uttered, and I hummed as I placed my focus on slicing the tomatoes in front of me, leaving the quiet of no words to invade our exchange. Only the hitting of the knife against the cutting board could be heard, and I found peace in that. Just the mere feel of her being here even though she wasn't physically present, it still made me feel good.
She was obviously exhausted and still found the time to call me, it was quite clear that Messiah had a clingy-ness about her. Even when she was more suppressed with me than she is now she still had to call me. I like it, I like how expressive she can get, even though she isn't a hundred percent open, and I can tell she isn't.
