M E S S I A H
I pushed my chair back from underneath the table before removing myself from my seat as laughter continued the dance around the dining area. The taste of the food was still busy dancing on my tongue, even though I had finished eating for quite some time, and my hunger was long gone.
My sister quickly moved to stack her empty plate against mine, and so did my brother as they released thank yous, and I hummed while moving into the kitchen where my mother had gone minutes ago.
Her early exit from the dining room gave me a chance to catch up with my siblings, thankfully without the presence of our aunt since she was already gone when I had returned from the store. A part of me knew my mother had something to do with that since she knew that I, more than my siblings, despised the woman.
Her passive aggressive comments and slight homophobia didn't really make it hard to, it was one of the reasons that my mother kept there visits to once a month, she didn't exactly want her sister around my younger siblings either, no matter how much she loved her sister.
My mother was the most caring and kind hearted woman I knew, and that's why I spent everyday making sure she never went without whatever she desired.
My eyes caught sight of the beautifully melanated woman who raised me as I entered the kitchen, and I couldn't help the smile that settled on my lips. There she stood before the sink with her hands busy moving the sponge against the cooking pot in her hand.
"Hey mama," I greeted to announce my presence and she glanced back at me as I took my final steps to settle next to her.
"Hey baby," She replied as I placed the stacked dishes on the counter, which was all that remained to be cleaned along with the forks we also used, and another pot since she had already taken our empty glasses with her earlier when she left.
"Let me help you with these," I offered with a move of my hand to take the sponge, but she swiftly dodged my attempt.
"No, I got this," She stated. "You need to start heading home before it get even darker out there,"
"Mama I'm good," I assured, and she sighed while placing the pot in the sink before grabbing the kitchen towel on the counter and drying her hands free of water and suds.
"I wasn't asking you baby," She expressed with a turn to me to display the worry that strangled her features, and I frowned as she released another sigh while taking a hold of my hand in hers.
"Okay mama," I replied while performing a lean forward to leave a kiss against her cheek. "I'll see you,"
"You will," She confirmed and I smiled while lifting our joined hands as well to place a kiss on the back of hers. "Go tell your brother and sister bye,"
"Yes ma'am," I expressed and she chuckled as I pulled away from her to make my way back to the dining room, where I caught the sight of my brother and sister cleaning the table. "Y'all I got head out,"
"When you coming back?" Jada asked with a frown as she paused her wiping of the glass surface of the table to look up at me.
"I don't yet, but hopefully soon," I told her truthfully since I didn't want to give a specific date and time and not show up.
"Okay," She replied in a low voice while releasing the rag in her hand to move into me for a hug that I happily gave.
"Daniel," I called out and he leaned over the table to dab me up as Jada released me.
"I'm gonna send you the schedule for my games when I get it,"
"Okay," I stated. "Jada come and lock the door behind me please,"
