M E S S I A H
The glow of the moonlight continued to sight in my lap as I sat in my car patiently waiting for Grace to exit her home, while the nerves in my body remained present. Nina Simone's 'You Don't Know What Love Is' proceeded to be played throughout the car under the silent whistle of the cool air flowing from the A/C, and I took each line with an open heart and understanding, while being careful to keep it away from my already present nerves.
I was ignorant to the present dating scene after being out of this shit for so long, but I like her, and Ion wanna fuck this up more than I seemingly have.
Footsteps announced themselves lowly, and the sound had me turning my head to see her only a few steps away. Which had me undoing my seatbelt in preparation to get her door for her, but before I could even open my own door she was already entering the vehicle.
Fuck
"Hey, sorry for the wait," She apologized the instant she was seated next to me after pulling the door closed behind her.
"It's cool," I told her honestly since the time was actually well used by me, and actually needed to push away my nerves enough to find some calm. "I was actually supposed to get your door, but I ain't even realize you was coming out until you was basically here,"
"I guess we even then," She stated with a smile that I returned as I placed my car in drive.
"Aitte," I accepted, placing my right hand on the wheel as I looked both ways before sending a glance back in her direction after remembering her lack of safety. "Seatbelt,"
She offered a simple hum as I pulled onto the street, before lifting a finger from the hand that was already on the wheel to turn down the music a bit. I mean it wasn't loud but it could fall a little lower and it still could be heard, and that's how I wanted it, low enough to where you had to focus to fully appreciate the gift it was.
I wanted her to know I was open to conversation.
"Why you turning it down?" She asked and I glanced over at her to find her now wearing her seatbelt and a frown.
"I was thinking we could talk on the drive there," I told her truthfully with my finger now hovering over the volume buttons on the wheel.
"I can listen to you both," She confessed with a ghost of a smile on her lips and I released a subtle nod, while returning the music to its original low volume.
"You listen to Nina?" I asked since what she said had awakened my curiosity.
"Of course I do," She answered, leaving my interest in her to grow a bit more.
"That answer makes me feel like you flirting with me a little bit," I joked as I flipped on my indicator to leave a clicking sound to stand in the space around us as well.
"So if I told you I got all her bodies of work on vinyl, is that flirting too?" She asked with amusement, dancing sweetly in her inquiry, as I took the right turn on the journey to exit her neighborhood.
"That's dirty talk right there," I answered with a bit of distraction in tone as I leaned forward to look at the street, and she snickered at my response while I tried to remember my way out of this place from this way.
Maybe I should've just taken the u-turn and went back the way I came, instead of coming this way.
Red Avenue...That means my turn somewhere up there.
"So where are we going?" She asked, pulling me from my concentrated state as I continued to drive.
"You'll know when we get there,"
