M E S S I A H

The earlier interaction mixed with everything D told me continued to dance in my head as I pulled onto the highway with Grace by my side in the car. Everything weighed on me in a manner that had heaviness sitting on my chest, making me highly uncomfortable. I needed to fix this now and I wanted to more than anything, but the familiar face sitting next to me was deemed more important by me.

This one little fuck up by Jermaine and Likum was not only fucking with my safety but my money and my name. If they didn't know the rules who knew what the fuck the people in the pit were doing. They could be selling to kids, recruiting kids, talking shit with they phones on them.

These incompetent motherfuckers.

All the careful shit, and a motherfucker who had never even seen the inside of my crib could be the one to fuck it up. This is why I preferred to be alone and work alone because—

"You okay?" Grace's question crawled through my mind to drag my attention back to the present.

"Hhm?" I hummed while glancing at her to find her already looking at me.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm just, thinking," I replied vaguely before releasing a sigh as one of my hands fell from the wheel to my lap.

"About?"

"Nothing," I uttered, and with that silence came, well at least the silence of words since the sound of cars driving around us could still be heard. Even though this silence was still comfortable it was also heavy with unspoken words, and I assumed that was created by me, until she spoke again.

"Is it about me meeting your friends?" She asked suddenly, and it had a frown gripping my features as I sent another glance her way.

"No," I shot down. "Why would you think that?"

"Because I know you're very private, and you were fine before you left the shop and—"

"That isn't it, I just got some work stuff I'm dealing with," I explained with a lift of my hand from my lap to instead take a hold of her thigh. "I promise you I'm fine with y'all meeting,"

"Okay,"

"Did you like them?" I asked before directing a quick look her way. "My friends,"

"Yeah, they seemed cool but we didn't talk much," She answered. "Plus I wouldn't call it meeting since you didn't introduce us,"

"No introduction is an introduction," I told her with a smile as I continued to stare at the road ahead.

"Not a very good one,"

"But don't you already know them because that's where you be getting your hair done?"

"It's my second time," She revealed and I nodded.

"The blunt one is Justine, the woman braiding your hair is Raven, the pregnant one is Kelly, D the dude," I revealed with a lift of my hand from off the wheel to pull my chain from under my shirt before returning it to the steering.

"How did you all meet?"

"We grew up together all of us, D and Raven brother and sister, Justine was Raven's friend and D was mine and he used to date Kelly and that's how we all came together,"

"I liked Kelly, she seemed really sweet," Grace revealed to me, and I smiled at that.

"She is, she having a baby for a guy I be knowing, he's a good man," I told her as I took a turn off the highway.

"M it's the next turn,"

"We going to my place," I told her, clearing up her confusion.

"Oh," She said simply, making me grin.
