The sound of my typing whispered throughout the space of my living room, while Keylen continued to sit next to me not really doing nothing. I made no move to question it or force him to do anything other than just sit, because I knew how much enjoyment he found in silence so I proceeded to do me while he did him.
I was busy going over the notes for my lesson plan on Monday, and I only hoped I could get the majority that I had planned on doing today done before I had to get up and start on dinner.
I was also discussing therapy options for Keylen with Ms Robinson earlier, and I was trying to find the perfect time to bring up the topic to him. It was starting to seem like there would be none, so I was simply waiting until he at least grew a bit more comfortable here.
Hopefully I could get him started before they found him a home, so he would have someone to talk to while he grows the relationship with whoever will assume guardianship over him.
"Ms Conley," I heard Keylen call out from beside me and I hummed while typing the last three words before halting my moving hands and turning my head to face him.
I sat there awaiting the beginning of his words but they never came as he simply sat there, and I could see him drifting into his mind as if he was rethinking whatever he had intended to say to me.
"It's okay Keylen, what is it?"
"Uhm, can—is it okay if I start a sport?"
"Of course, which sport were you planning to start?" I asked in a soft tone, voicing my interest aloud and that had his eyes falling from mine.
"Soccer, I'm not really good at it but I want to at least try out for the team at school,"
"When are the tryouts?"
"Next two months," He stated, and that had me realizing that his ask for permission meant he believed that he was going to be with me until then. I wasn't sure whether to be happy or sad at the fact since it could either mean that he was enjoying being here and wanted to stay with me, or that he didn't believe that anybody wanted him enough to take him in so he would be stuck here. Which one it was I didn't know, but I hoped it wasn't the latter.
"Okay, then how about we get you some lessons now so you can be prepared for tryouts when they come?"
"Really?" He asked, hopeful but also surprised as if he didn't expect me to agree much less put out an effort to help.
"Yeah, I have a friend who does private coaching, I'll call him and get something sorted, maybe on weekends or after school?" I offered, leaving the decision for him to make.
"Anything you want to do,"
"I want to do what you want to do," I assured, but I was met with nothing but silence, and it was one that told me that I wasn't going to receive an answer even if he had it. "How about we do weekends now and if you like it, we can do after school instead or after school with weekends if you want?"
"Okay," He agreed, and his confirmation had me leaning forward with a stretch of my hand to grab my phone off the coffee table in front of me.
"I'm going to give him a call and set it up for this weekend coming and so on," I told him in a volume a little bit above a murmur as I began to search through my phone for Kingston's name. Once I found it I made the call and lifted the phone to my ear to await his voice.
"Grace," His voice came two rings after.
"Hey King, Uhm, do you have any more spots on the weekends?"
