M E S S I A H
The glow from the moonlight continued to slip through the transparent layer that was my windshield, as ringing continued to dance through my car's speakers while my call was made. My right hand elevated from my thigh to open the car door, whilst my left shot up to turn off the cool air circulating the vehicle from the air conditioning unit.
The second the change took place one of my legs pushed out of the car to rest on the asphalt of the parking lot I was in, and a ring later had the call connecting.
"Hello,"
"Hey," I responded and a yawn immediately pushed past my lips after. "What you doing right now?"
"I'm about to eat right now, I just got home,"
"This late?"
"I stopped at my parents," She revealed to me as the sound of a chair drawing against the floor whispered in her background. "My mom talks,"
"She talks?" I repeated with a small chuckle at her description.
"Yes, she talks," She confirmed. "I was supposed to leave her house an hour ago but she trailed me outside and kept the conversation going,"
"Every black family has to have one of those," I pointed out, earning a laugh from her.
"I started to leave, then I stopped at the front door talking with her, then the gate, then my car door, then I got in my car with the window down before driving off," She confided, and the sound of her voice had me knowing that she had begun eating.
"Sounds like a good night,"
"Sounds like," She repeated and I snickered while sending my seat back with a press of a button to begin its slow descent.
"What you doing later?"
"I'm putting the care packages together for my students,"
"Sounds fun," I teased as I released my torso back against my seat which was now situated at the perfect angle.
"If it sounds so fun to you, why don't you come over and help me?" She asked with the sound of a smile altering her tone.
"And let you share the fun?"
"Fuck you," She threw with a laugh that I returned whilst the cling of a utensil falling against a plate sounded underneath the joyous sound.
"Why it gotta be fuck me?" I started, allowing our laughing to stretch and then die down before speaking again. "But forreal tho, if you serious I'll come thru,"
"I am, I got a lot to do and I'm already tired," She responded in a much more serious manner as I took a look into my inner rearview mirror to see D still with Loyal and some others, whose names I wasn't really familiar with.
"What time do you want me?" I requested with a flirty undertone.
"I want you here by seven, seven-thirty the latest," She answered in a way that let me know she caught my subtle flirt.
"Okay ma'am," I breathed out with a smile.
"Thank you,"
"No problem, Imma call you when I'm near,"
"Okay," She stated, and with that I ended the call before sending a look up to the rearview mirror once more.
The sight of D still engaged in conversation had me gazing down at my watch.
6:23 P.M
On a usual day, I would've waited a little longer despite him going over the promised time, doing whatever unnecessary shit he was doing, but the fact that I promised Grace a time had me disconnecting the phone from bluetooth and giving him a ring.
