M E S S I A H

I released my body against the front seat of my car as I continued to watch the group of kids cross the road.

Sankofa High School.

It was a school we were all familiar with, at least everybody in the west, and every anti black motherfucker you could find. It was a creation of Jazmine Johnson or better known around these parts and by people like me as her street name, Ice, who was a well known billionaire in the black community, mostly for her flipping of a few neighborhoods to create communities.

I remember how her work drove the Dragos up north, and killed my competition in the process. I never fought what she was doing because shit, maybe in another life, or if I had chosen a different path way back, that could've been me.

I respected what she was doing the minute I found out, and moved my operations to the southern parts of the east to give her the space to do so. The southern part of the east for me was back home, here with my mama and my family where I couldn't hide what I was doing.

The clearing of the street had me pulling off with one of my hands falling from the wheel to my thigh. I was only up this side because D, Peanut and I had to go see Ky, whose office was here in the northern parts of the westside, but usually I stuck to my side because the last thing I wanted was for trouble to follow me here.

Especially when Ice did such a good job of clearing this shit out of people like me.

I quickly flicked on my indicator to make my left turn, and with that turn came the spotting of D and Peanut by me, standing on the side of the road conversing.

I quickly pulled over before them while unlocking the doors, and the halting of my vehicle had them both entering the car, with D in the front beside me and Peanut in the back.

"How long y'all been out here waiting?" I asked after the closing of both their doors had been voiced.

"Not long, we practically just finished eating and came out," Peanut answered from the back as I drove off once more with a new destination in mind.

"And y'all was telling me you been outside," I voiced, remembering the words Peanut had said earlier when they called for the pick-up and to find out how far away I was.

"We were outside then the lady inside told us the sweet and sour chicken we wanted was done with, so we went back in to eat," Peanut explained as D took a hold of his seatbelt before clicking it in place.

"He was also telling me about the fight that went down at the club last night," D expressed in reference to the conversation surrounding the specific event we had this morning.

"Was it one of them fights?" I asked him alluding to it being one fueled by the game as I took the left turn.

"No, just some drunk ass motherfuckers fighting over a dollar,"

"All that shit for a dollar?" I questioned, remembering that D and I had picked up the story of a bloody battle that resulted in cuts and black eyes before our security intervened.

"Yeah," D confirmed with a sigh. "Some sad ass shit ain't it?"

"Yeah," I uttered, stopping at the red light while my eyes settled on where I was destined to park.

The reality of the story they were telling only reconfirmed my reasoning for being so cautious of drinking, and who I drank around. All my years of living and I have never been drunk, and I don't think I trust anybody to really allow myself to be drunk around.

I mean I trust D, Ky and Dantae with my life, but I don't really trust them to care for me, at least not in the way I need it.

"Liquor really make people do some shit cause I bet they looking back right now realizing that none of that wasn't worth," D voiced.
