M E S S I A H

With a lock of my car door, I immediately began to move around my car as the cool night's breeze caressed every part of my skin that was left exposed by my gray t-shirt.

"Ay," I heard my brother, Dantae, call out from his place in the front passenger seat of my car, and the sound had me halting my steps with a turn to face him. "Get me a doritos and a soda,"

"Alright," I replied as I resumed my journey across the barely filled gas station to get to the store attached to it. The travel of D's product through Dantae's side of the business had him here this week to discuss some stuff; stuff I didn't want to know about if I didn't have to.

It was also stuff that I knew was important because Dantae didn't leave Jamaica for just anything.

He loved home, but that wasn't the only reason, the other was that he was as cautious as I was. For different reasons though, home was a lot deadlier than here but his name was the strength that kept him held above a grave.

That didn't mean motherfuckers didn't want to try though.

The feel of vibrations sprinting along my thigh had me removing my phone from my jeans pocket to look at the illuminated screen, which held the caller ID while I simultaneously pushed the door open.

Grace

Her name had me answering the call as I entered the store with a place of the device against my ear to hear her.

"Grace," I called out, releasing the door behind me.

"Hey, are you busy?"

"Kinda but Imma be free in a minute, what's up you need something?" I asked her, knowing I had to drop off Dantae where D was before I could make a step for myself. He was only here for a day so he didn't bother renting nothing to drive around, and since it was a quick drop off and pick up, he simply asked me to do it.

"Can you come over for a little bit?"

"Yeah, give me about thirty to forty five minutes," I told her as I scanned the aisle for doritos.

"Okay,"

"You need anything?" I asked, noting how drained she sounded.

I know she had a long day.

"No,"

"Imma get you sumn anyways cause you sounding like you went through it today," I told her and she laughed for a bit before silence sat between us. "Are you okay with me getting you that?"

"Yeah, I am,"

"Okay, then lookout for me,"

"Okay, stay safe,"

"I will,"

-

The ring of her doorbell had me standing outside awaiting her answer to the door while sending cautious looks around. The coldness from the paper bag gripping my hand had me hoping the wait wouldn't be too long, and as if being able to hear my thoughts she opened the door.

A small smile met my lips as I took in the sight of her in front me looking absolutely breathtaking.

"Hey," She uttered, stepping to the side and I entered before beginning the act of removing my shoes while she closed the door behind us.

"Hey," I greeted back as I pushed the shoes I had previously slipped out of neatly to the side.

"Whatchu get me?" She questioned, and I smiled while handing the bag over to her.
