Emy's POV
"EMY," the girls hollered and ran to me from the door.
"Hi, we saw each other like 5 hours ago," I said shocked by their excitement.
I walked inside feeling less nervous as the night went on. We played board games until about 6:00 then had dinner. For dinner we had BLT's. "Ready for desert?" Kristen asked us.
"I'm full from the sandwiches but you guys go ahead, I'm going to the bathroom," I said getting up from the table and going upstairs.
I stumbled upon the bathroom and checked my blood sugar. I looked down to see that it was high. Probably because I hadn't corrected before dinner. I gave myself an insulin shot and went back down stairs.
"Ready for the movie?" Trista asked as we gathered in the living room.
"Yep," we said In unison. The movie played and I watched for a while but soon got distracted. I was starting to feel a horrible headache.
I looked over at my friends watching the movie and didn't want to ruin the night, so I kept quiet. I got up to use the bathroom and realized that I was very pale. I was nervous, not knowing what was going on.
"Hey, is everything all right you keep going to the bathroom?" Trista asked trying to be nice.
"I'm fine," I said annoyed at the question. She gave me a puzzled look but shrugged and continued watching.
Once the movie finished I was feeling worse. We went to Kristen's room and got ready for bed. "I'm finished," Trista announced walking out of the bathroom. I traded spots with her and went to change. I entered the bathroom and checked my blood sugar.
It was critically low, the machine read 50 and I freaked. I reached into my bag went a wave of dizziness rushed over me and my legs gave out as everything went black. All I heard was the thump as I hit the floor.
3rd person
A loud thump came from the bathroom "Emy?" Trista called out, no response. The girls ran to investigate but the door was locked. Anna ran up the stairs to see what the commotion was about.
"We heard a thump from the bathroom. I think Emy's hurt herself." Anna went to fetch the key and the girls continued to bang on the door. Anna passed the key to Kristen and she fiddled with the lock.
Kristen ran inside, Trista following. "She's fainted," Kristen yelled out the door. At this point Levi heard the girl's screams and came over to the room.
"What's happened? Can I help?" Levi came in asking. "Let's move her to your bedroom floor," Anna instructed. Levi grabbed Emy off the floor and carefully moved her to the other room.
"She feels hot, let's remove her jacket," Levi suggested putting her down and removing her jacket.
"What's that," Trista said pointing to the bracelet on her wrist.
"I'm not sure, why don't you look at it," Anna suggested.
Trista read the bracelet. "It's a medical alert band." Anna looked confused but nodded.
"Does anyone have her moms number?" Anna asked.
"I have her sister Reagan's number," Levi said pulling out his phone. He dialed her number and waited for her to answer.
"Levi, Hi. What's up?"
"Hey Reagan. I'm calling about Emy." Liam said into the phone.
"What is it?"
"She's passed out."
"Oh no. She probably didn't tell you this but she has type 1 diabetes." Reagan said urgently into the phone.
"Um no, what should we do?"
"Check her blood sugar with the device in her bag, and call an ambulance. I'll be right over with my mom. Bye"
"Bye"
Levi hung up and told the others what to do. Anna called 911 and told them what happened. Levi used the machine to check her blood sugar which was at 50mg. Emy started to stir and began to wake up.
Emy's POV
I heard voices around me talking and saw blurred people above me. "Mmmn," I groaned and tried to sit up but was pushed back down. My vision cleared and I saw Anna Kate and Levi above me. Kristen and Trista were standing off to the side.
"Hey, your awake. You passed out. Your mom and sister are coming and we've called an ambulance," Anna Kate said. "How're you feeling?" She added.
"Ok," I mumbled and she helped me to a sitting position. I heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Kristen hollered and came back seconds later with Reagan and my mother.
"My poor baby," my mother said running to me. Levi and Anna stepped back as she went to work. She checked my blood sugar which was at 50mg and I was struggling to stay awake.
I was sweating and had a throbbing headache. I wasn't very aware of what was happening. The paramedics came in and looked me over. I felt like I was going to vomit. My vision was blurry again and I felt myself slip into darkness.
When I woke up again I was in a small hospital room. I had an IV in my arm and was hooked up to monitors. I looked over to see my mom and Reagan sitting in the chairs by my bed. "Hey sweetie, your finally awake," my mom said stroking my forehead.
I tried to sit up but was too tired. The doctor walked in seconds later "Good to see your awake Emerson, How're you feeling?"
"A little bit tired and dizzy but other than that fine," I said watching the doctor write down something.
"Ok, the nurse will check you out and give you the rest of the information then you'll be discharged." I waited in my room while my mom filled out the paperwork.
The nurse came in and checked for lingering symptoms. She checked my blood sugar and educated me to make sure the episode wouldn't happen again. Hypoglycemia is what it's called when you have low blood sugar. I was put in a wheelchair (hospital policy) and we went out to our car.
I got in and Reagan sat in the back with me. "Ok, so I've decided that we're going to get you one of those electronic blood sugar measuring devices. I haven't done much research, but the doctor suggested it. We should have done it a long time ago but they're expensive," my mom said to me.
"Thank you so much mom, when will you get it?" I asked excited not to have to use a finger prick anymore.
"I already got it. We can figure it out before you go back to school on Monday." We drove home and I was still pretty warn out. I collapsed onto my bed and stared up at the ceiling. I finally felt at peace.
Corny ending I guess. I hope you enjoyed I was going to post this earlier but I kept editing late at night so first thing the next morning for me you will see this. Thanks for the votes and reads comment your thoughts.
