{Friday Morning}

[Emy's POV]

Trista had finally sent me the schedule for the sleepover. I wasn't excited though. I've had type 1 diabetes since birth and it was always a struggle. We didn't find out until I was five. My mom was very supportive because her mother had diabetes. My father on the other hand was not happy, he was mean to me until the age of 10 when he just left one day.

My older sister, Reagan, was also very supportive. It's always been Emy and Reagan for as long as I can remember. She wasn't very happy about the move though, a couple of months ago we found out that my diabetes was getting worse. I had to be monitored in the hospital for a few weeks so they could help manage it since I wasn't doing very well. My mom liked the town here and the doctors so we packed up and moved.

After a couple of weeks in the hospital, I went back to school here in town where I met Trista and Kristen. I've never been a fan of telling people about my diabetes and I wasn't ready to tell them just yet. I was scared about the sleepover because I might have to make bathroom trips a lot to hide things. I've never had a sleepover before either so on top of that I was scared.

I woke up Friday morning and checked my blood sugar. I had a balanced breakfast organized by my mom, got ready, packed
my diabetes bag, and left in the car with Reagan. "Excited for the sleepover tonight?" Reagan asked me. I shook my head and sighed.

"That's okay, it's your first one. Just be careful," She said pulling into the school parking lot. I waved goodbye to her as she pulled over to the entrance for her grade. I walked inside and sat down at my desk.

"Hey guys, excited?" I asked Kristen and Trista as I sat down with them.

"Yes," they exclaimed in unison. I was glad to see my friends so happy I felt myself feel a bit dizzy and excused myself to the bathroom before class. My blood sugar was around 70 and I felt a slight panic at the almost low number. I ate a quick snack from my bag and waited to see if it raised, once I was feeling better I went back to class just in time for the bell to ring.

The day went by in a blur, all I could think about was the sleepover. Checking my blood sugar in between every class

"Em," "Emy," "Emerson," Reagan hollered struggling to get my attention.

"Are you ready to go?" She asked impatiently.

"Yes, Yes, sorry," I said turning my head to look out the window again.

"How was your day?" I asked her.

"It was pretty good, I made friends with a couple of kids,"

"Really? Who?" I asked excitedly.

"A couple of kids in my grade, Nathan, Levi, and a girl named Sammy," she told me.

"Interesting. Levi is Kristen's older brother," I stated.

"Oh, small world," she said.

When we got home I checked my blood sugar and gave myself an insulin shot through my abdomen. I packed my bag with clothes and tied my diabetes bag around my waist. It's a fanny pack that I have hidden in my jacket and looped through my jeans like a belt. Nervously, I told my mom I was ready to go. We drove to Kristen's house which wasn't very far from ours.

"Be careful, watch your blood sugar, and call me or tell Kristen's sister if you need anything. Ok?" she said.

"Ok, mom. Love you, bye," we said our goodbyes and she drove off. I felt the nervousness set in as I entered the house and the night began.
