[Long chapter ahead]
Jungkook walked through the front door with a heavy sigh, and for a moment, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He was tired, after spending the entire day at the crime scene, trying to gather as much evidence as possible while the trail was still fresh.
As he opened his eyes, he saw his husband and their daughter, sitting on the couch, watching TV. The moment Taehee saw her father, she wriggled in her seat, opening her arms wide and yelling, "pa-pa!"
Jungkook smiled as he picked Taehee up in his arms and gave her a tight hug. "Did you miss me, my angel?" he asked, and she nodded her head eagerly.
Taehyung got up from the couch and stood next to Jungkook. He pulled him into a tight embrace, his arms wrapped around Jungkook's waist. "How was your day, love?" he asked, planting a soft kiss on Jungkook's lips.
Jungkook sighed and leaned his forehead against Taehyung's. "It was tiring, to say the least," he said.
Taehyung pulled away from the embrace and let Jungkook rest on the couch. Taehee climbed onto Jungkook's lap and snuggled up against him, watching her favorite cartoon.
Jungkook leaned back against the couch, closing his eyes for a moment, trying to relax. After a few minutes, he opened them and looked over at Taehyung. "I found something today," he said, his voice low.
"What did you find?" Taehyung asked, his eyes locked onto Jungkook's.
Jungkook took a deep breath. "I found a lead. The killer has six fingers," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Taehyung's eyes widened in surprise. "Six fingers?" he repeated.
Jungkook nodded. "Yes. I found the fingerprints on one of the victim's belongings. I think it's the killer's," he said. "Because none of the victims have six fingers."
Taehyung sat down next to him and put his arm around his shoulders. "That's a good lead, Koo," he said, giving him a reassuring squeeze.
Jungkook leaned into Taehyung's embrace, grateful for the comfort. "I hope we can catch the killer soon," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"You will, Jungkook. You're a talented detective, and you won't let him get away," Taehyung said, giving Jungkook a kiss on the forehead. "How about we go and have dinner? You must be hungry."
As they sat at the dining table, talking, the maid walked in through the door with a tray of cooked meat in her hand.
"Why don't you join us too?" Jungkook asked, giving her a warm smile. Hyun-Joo smiled back, before taking a seat next to Taehyung, diagonal to Jungkook.
"Taehyung won't mind, right?" Jungkook asked, as he helped Taehee hold the spoon properly, who was sitting beside him.
Taehyung definitely minds it. He didn't like the way she was talking about Jungkook earlier that day. The maid was literally drooling over his husband, and he didn't want her near him.
"Sure," Taehyung said, his voice tinged with annoyance.
As they began to eat, Taehyung couldn't help but feel uncomfortable around Hyun-Joo. He noticed the way she looked at Jungkook, the way she laughed at his jokes, and it made him uneasy.
Jungkook noticed Taehyung's discomfort and put his hand on Taehyung's, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Is everything alright?" he asked.
Taehyung looked up at him and forced a smile. "Yeah, everything's fine," he said, but Jungkook knew he was lying.
As they finished their dinner, Jungkook asked the maid to clean up and go to sleep while they put Taehee to bed and were heading to sleep as well.
As Taehyung was having a warm shower, he couldn't help but think about the serial killer on the loose, and how it could affect his family. He worried about Taehee's safety, and whether or not he was doing enough to keep her safe.
