. . .
. . .
"Morning." Rick nodded, exiting his tent the next morning to find his family who had already gotten started with their day, letting him rest.
"Morning." Another man from the camp replied.
"Hey."
"Hi." He made his way up to the main area, passing people working about along the way.
"Morning." Carol greeted the newcomer with a smile.
"Morning."
"They're still a little damp. The sun'll have 'em dry in no time." She explained, ironing his clothes for him.
"You washed my clothes?" He asked, shocked at her kindness despite the end of the world.
"Well, best we could." She replied. "Scrubbing on a washboard ain't half as good as my old Maytag back home." She smiled to him simply, missing her home dearly.
"That's very kind. Thank you." Rick nodded in appreciation.
"Look at 'em. Vultures." Glenn commented as Rick stepped up beside him by the RV. Glenn and Harley had been stood watching the others strip down the sports car for parts, Harley amused and Glenn disappointed. Harley squeezed Glenn's shoulder before walking off to help Emily with some chores before she got yelled at.
"Yeah, go on, strip it clean." Glenn told them.
"Generators need every drop of fuel they can get. Got no power without it. Sorry, Glenn." Dale patted his shoulder, walking past with the fuel.
"Thought I'd get to drive it at least a few more days." Glenn sighed with much disappointment.
"Maybe we'll get to steal another one someday." Rick told him with optimism and a smile, patting Glenn on the back.
"Morning, officer." Lori greeted her husband with a smile when he walked over to where her and Emily were hanging towels up on the clothesline, Harley handing them a new pile of clean towels.
"Hey."
"You sleep okay?" Lori wondered, Emily smiling and keeping to herself.
"Better than in a long time." Rick chuckled to himself.
"Well, I didn't want to wake you. I figured you could use it. God. What?" She spotted the look on his face, knowing he was thinking about something.
"I've been thinking about the man we left behind." Rick said and Emily looked over in shock, caught off guard by the mention of Merle as Lori started at him for a moment, processing his words. Harley had taken her leave from the laundry, slipping away to watch Sophia and the Morales kids for a bit, letting Carol get some other chores done in the meantime.
