. . .
. . .
Breaking through the tree line we looked out over the farm, seeing the families headed towards the house for the meeting on what to do with Randal. Carl and I spared a glance at each other, neither one saying anything. The walk up to the house was slow, giving us time to calm down before seeing our parents.
"Where have you two been?" Emily asked seeing Carl and I walking up to the farm house. The boy was covered in mud while I had been dusted with the usual amount of dirt.
"Let's gather up." Rick announced, everyone moving inside from the porch to have their meeting.
"Come on, Carl. I want you to stay with Jimmy." Lori told him, guiding him into the house.
"But I wanna listen." He tried pleading with her, looking up with a pout.
"Hm-mmm, not this time. Come on." She shook her head.
"Go on with Jimmy, now" Daryl ruffled my hair and nudged my shoulder when we stepped into the living room. I huffed a sigh but turned to follow Jimmy into another room to wait out the meeting.
Carl had stood close behind his father, hoping not to be noticed. The room stayed silent and Rick took a glance over his shoulder sternly, noticing the boy. Lori, Daryl and Emily also came to notice the boy listening in, Carl huffing a sigh and finally walking off.
"So how do we do this? Just take a vote?" Harley wondered, breaking the silence awkwardly.
"Does it have to be unanimous?" Andrea asked next.
"How about majority rules?" Lori offered.
"Well, let's-- let's just see where everybody stands, then we can talk through the options." Rick began, nobody knowing how to go about making a decision like this.
"Well, where I sit, there's only one way to move forward." Shane commented casually.
"Killing him, right?" Dale asked out, growing upset. "I mean, why even bother to even take a vote? It's clear which way the wind's blowing."
"Well, if people believe we should spare him, I wanna know." Rick said.
"Well, I can tell you it's a small group-- Maybe just me, Emily and Glenn." Dale spoke out defeated, Emily giving him a sympathetic smile before he looked to Glenn's silence, seeing the doubt in the boys eyes.
"Look, I-- I think you're pretty much right about everything, all the time, but this--" Glenn gestured to the others.
"They've got you scared." Dale accused,
"He's not one of us. And we've-- we've lost too many people already." Glenn gave his opinion.
"How about you? Do you agree with this too?" Dale pointed towards Emily who seemed to be debating her options.
