. . .
"How much farther?" Harley asked, growing tired from all of the walking.
"Not much.. Maybe a hundred yards as the crow flies." Daryl replied.
"Too bad we're not crows." Andrea muttered. "Oh.. Oh! As the crow flies, my ass." She walked through a spiderweb with a huff, wiping away the web when a Walker came up beside her, catching her off guard. Andrea screamed out, bringing the attention of the group to her while she stumbled back.
"Andrea?" Lori called for the girl who had separated from the group, walking a few meters away.
"No-no- Oh, no!" Andrea tried to fight it off, the others running towards the sounds of her screams. She tripped back over a branch, falling on the ground while the Walker trapped her beneath it. The others had reached her just in time to see a woman ride in on a horse, knocking the Walker down with a baseball bat.
"Lori? Lori grimes? Whoa!" The woman on the horse called out, looking around for the woman she was sent to bring back.
"I'm Lori." She stepped up with worry for how the woman knew her name and why the woman was looking for her.
"Rick sent me- You've got to come now."
"What?" Lori asked, an anxious pit forming in her stomach.
"There's been an accident- Carl's been shot. He's still alive but you've gotta come now. Rick needs you- Just come!" Maggie urged.
"Whoa-whoa-whoa! We don't know this girl. You can't get on that horse." Daryl protested as Lori dropped her bag and climbed up with Maggie, not waiting or thinking about it.
"Rick said you had others on the highway, that big traffic snarl?" Maggie asked the others.
"Uh-huh." Glenn nodded in awe of the woman.
"Backtrack to Fairburn road. Two miles down is our farm. You'll see the mailbox- Name's Greene. Cassie is there and safe as well--Hi-yah!" Maggie rode off again and Daryl grew tense, knowing his daughter was with these strangers. He trusted Rick with me, Shane not so much but now with Carl injured Daryl grew uneasy knowing the boy would take Ricks full attention.
"Shut up." Daryl snarled, shooting the Walker in the head when it sat up again. He marched off again, everyone following him after sharing looks of shock at what had just happened. Emily picked up Loris bag that she had left behind and carried it back.
. . .
"Shot? What do ya mean shot" Dale asked with worry not understanding how Carl was shot when the group returned to fill him in, climbing out of the forest.
"I don't know, Dale. I wasn't there." Harley used her sarcasm as a coping mechanism, not knowing if they were going to loose another kid.
"All I know is this chick rode out of nowhere like Zorro on a horse and took Lori." Glenn climbed over the rail guard.
