Chapter 9

Getting ready

Months passed and Alina did not improve with her small science. Baghra was training her and from what Alina told Kaida, she wasn't very nice.

Kaida knew Baghra, of course, but for some unknown reason Kirigan didn't want Baghra to train her like everyone else.

During these months The Darkling was searching for the Stag, a magical creature that would increase Alina's powers and make her stronger in order to destroy The Fold.

Winter came and with it one of the most awaited festivities of the year, the winter fete.

This was going to be the second winter fete that Kaida would attend and she would finally wear a black dress after so many attempts by the General to get her to wear it last time.

Kaida was in The Darkling's room.

"Are you going to wear a black dress this time?" Kirigan asked her.

"I don't know, maybe," Kaida said, lifting her shoulders.

"I love the dress you wore last time, but you look incredible with black," he said getting closer to her.

"I'll think about it," Kaida said with a smile. "Now, I have to go to see Alina and start getting ready,"

"I have to go and continue trying to locate the Stag," he said with frustration.

"You'll find it, don't worry," Kaida tried to calm him.

"I hope so. Now, go. I'll see you tonight,"

Kaida walked out of the room and went to Alina's room.

"Hey girls," Kaida said with a smile. "How are you both?"

"We are great," Genya said, giving her a hug.

"I'm nervous about the performance," Alina said.

"Don't call it performance," Genya warned. "The Darkling can't stand it. He thinks the winter fete is a giant waste of Grisha time."

"And I agree with him, It's a waste of time," Kaida said.

"This is your first time?" Alina asked Kaida.

"The Fete? No, it 's not. It's my second," Kaida explained.

"How was your first one?"

"Well..."

Flashback

Genya and Kaida were in the brunette's room. Kaida was very nervous since being the only Empathic Grisha she would have to give a demonstration to everyone

"Are you very nervous?" Genya asked her as she began to do her makeup.

"Yes!" Kaida replied stressed.

"Kaida, you'll do it great, otherwise the General wouldn't have told you to do the demonstration," the redhead tried to reassure her.

"I don't know. What if I get confused and kill him?" the brunette asked.

"You won't. And now shut up I have to paint your lips," Genya demanded, making Kaida laugh.

After finishing her makeup Genya set about doing her hair. She pinned up the girl's brown hair and grabbed some of her full locks and pinned them back with a beautiful clip with stones the same color as her dress.

"Let's put on your dress," Genya said. Kaida nodded and walked over to the bed where the bottle green dress with a sweetheart neckline and a slit in the skirt showed off her leg. With Genya's help she put it on and then the redhead held out heels of the same color.
