Last hope
Kaida was standing in front of the Grand Palace, at her back was the village. She could hear the music and the people laughing, she wasn't sure why they were laughing, but they were and she enjoyed that.
With a bright smile on her face she walked towards the village when the sound of a thunder made her stop. She looked up to see the sky completely clear, no clouds, just the sun shining. Again the thunder sounded in the distance.
The music stopped and also did the laughing. Kaida looked to the horizon and her face went pale.
"Run!" Kaida screamed as loud as she could. "Run!" When the people saw what was happening chaos erupted. The Fold was moving towards them.
Now, the only thing that Kaida could hear were the panicking screams. People were running through each other, trying to save themselves and now the air was covered in blood. But Kaida didn't move.
She saw how the Fold arrived at the village making it disappear under her eyes. She covered her eyes when the shadows surrounded her.
Carefully and slowly, Kaida took her arms from her eyes. It was all dark, she blinked a few times trying to make sense of what was happening. The Fold expanded and she was in it.
She couldn't hear the usual sound of the flapping wings of the Volcra. She couldn't hear anything, just the beating of her heart beneath her chest.
Something lit up in the distance.
"Hey!" Kaida screamed, starting to run towards the light which was fading away. "Wait!" It was hard to run with the sand burying her feet every step she took, but she still did it, trying to reach the light.
Something on the ground made her fall. She hitted her body with something cold and rigid, it wasn't sand, she knew the texture of the sand. She looked at her hands and they were covered in blood. Kaida looked down to see the body of a boy, a wound of a knife in his chest and next to him a girl with white hair. Their hands were together, holding each other.
Kaida screamed and stepped away hitting something again. She turned exalted to see the body of another girl, this one had black hair and beautiful features. She stood up quickly and looked around her, more bodies. A girl with red hair laying in the arms of a boy with glasses. A really big boy laying next to a girl with short hair was next to another girl with blond hair.
Who were they? How did they end there?
Kaida looked at the bodies horrified. She felt as if she knew them but she didn't remember from where.
The light in the distance was fading but she couldn't make herself move. Her eyes were stuck on the lifeless people around her.
She walked towards a boy that was laying on his stomach on the ground. It looked as if he wanted to reach someone but he didn't have the time. She knelt next to him.
"Who were you trying to reach for?" she asked with sadness. She looked up, trying to figure out who he was trying to reach but her eyes stopped on a body she didn't see before.
Again, she stood up and walked towards the body. The light was fading and she could only see the blond hair of the man laying on the sand. She started running, for some reason she needed to know who this person was and if the light faded before she could reach the body it would be impossible. Her heart was pounding, her breath was fast. She needed to know who it was.
She fell to her knees next to the body and before the light faded she whispered looking into the man features:
"Nikolai,"
