The careless general

The mission...

She walked the halls of the kingdom, looking at the halls that had a red carpet going all the way through, different paintings hanging on the wall. Layla had her backpack on her back, sword at her hip. She was wearing leather armour, to be a bit protected but also could move freely.

She got to a door leading outside in the courtyard, she opend the door and walked outside, being met by her soldiers standing in 2 lines each on line on their own side of the door. She walked past her soldiers being met by the king standing with a smile at her. The king now turned around as she got next to him, she gave a bow before he spoke. "Its importent that you dont let your guard down, if they get past you, the kingdom is in danger" He said looking at her with a serious face, Layla nodded understanding if she failed, she shouldnt be welcomed come back.

She now gave a sign with her hand behind her back, telling the soldiers to relax a bit, they now went back to the things they were doing before Layla showed up. Layla now asked "Who is attacking?" The king looked away from her and looked to the sky "I wish i could tell you, but they seem like good warriors, which is why im sending you and your soldiers" Layla nodded "I wont let them get to the kingdom" Layla wished she could promise it. The king nodded looking at her again "Good luck" Layla took that as a sign to get going, "Soldiers!" She started and the soldiers turned to her, as she had gotten everyones attention she continued "This mission is very importent, the kingdom is on the line, and the king as trusted us to stop the unknown attackers, so lets make him and the kingdom proud!" The solderis raised their swords in the air as agreement. "Lets go then!" Layla started walking, as her soldiers followed her. Jackie and Evelyn joined Layla in front.

They walked in 2 lines, with 4 'Runners' as Layla called soldiers who scaned the area around them, 2 were in front and 2 in the back, the sides the other soldiers had to scan themselves. Layla looked to the sky seeing the sun was getting close to sunset, dinner time... but Layla noticed one of the runners stop on a hill in front of them. Layla gave sign to the soldiers to stop as the runner came up to her. "Captian, it seems the enemy is here already, just over that hill they have made camp" Before Layla could say anything Evelyn spoke "There not surpossed to be here yet, right?" Layla looked at her shaking her head, "How many are there?" Jackie now asked runners turned to him answering "Around the double of us" Jackie looked shocked at Layla but she gave him a calm face.

Layla looked over the hill looking at the camp, she could see people the iron armour, their weapons were away from them, most of them were by campfires, close to their tents, as she had hoped they were eating dinner, they were distracted, perfect time to attack. She looked behind her, giving signs to her soldiers about the plan and what to do. When she was done, the first sneak group was sent, they sneaked down the hill, and stopped furtherest away from the hill behind some tents. She kept sending groups down, but always a bit close then the other, until there were soldiers around the hole camp.

Layla had one group on around 10 soldiers with her on the hill. She now quickly grabed an arrow from her qviver and lit it on fire, and quickly sent it away from her bow, this was the sign for the soldiers to attack, but first the arrow hit a tent which lit on fire right away. The enemy was not focused on the fire, as her soldiers get up and started to attack, most of the enemy soldiers didnt even have time to grab their weapon. Layla now ran down the hill with her group, who used bow and arrow in the start, when they got to the camp they grabed their swords.

After a while of fighting, which went quite well for them, the enemy retreated from their camp as they celebrated victory. Before going to far away, they made sure to tend to the wounded soldiers. As Layla finished cleaning  a wound of a soldier, Jackie came up to her, before saying anything he helped putting bandage on the wound.

When they finished they looked at eachother, "Dont you think its weird they retreated?" Jackie asked, Layla knew he was right, it was weird, but she didnt want to worry him to much "Well i mean, atleast they wont get to the kingdom now" Layla tryed to calm him "What if they come back?" He now asked "If they do, we will show them who they are messing with" she answered.
