"This Is Getting Old"

A few hours have passed, and I've convinced Peli to let me help with repairs. She only agrees to it because it's my birthday, and Din forbids her from using her pit droids. I laughed when she told me that. I'm in the back room, looking for a tool when I hear Din's voice. "WHERE ARE THEY?" He yells, sounding afraid. As I make my way back, I can hear Peli tell him she just got the kid to sleep.

I come out and call out to him, letting him know it's ok. He pulls me into a tight embrace, relief washing over him. "Sorry, I should have let you know." I sigh. He pulls back and looks at me.

"It's alright, I should know better. The attendant wouldn't be alive if she meant you harm." He sighs.

"Hey! My name is Peli! Not Attendant!" She calls out, rocking the baby. I smile and look to Din.

"Speaking of, you won't believe what I learned! Peli knew my parents! In fact, I was born right here in this hangar! I know my real name!" I smile. I can feel his shock. "My name is Kira! And today is my twenty first birthday!" I tell him, bouncing a little. He cups my cheek and touches out foreheads together.

"That's amazing! Now I feel bad about having a job lined up." He sighs. I chuckle and tell him it's ok. He grabs his bag and I follow him and Peli as she tells him how expensive it is to keep the droids running. There's a young man with two speeders, asking Din if they aren't too shabby. Din checks them over, and not even I am impressed.

"What'd you expect? This ain't Corellia." He sighs. He looks at Peli and I, smiling. "Ma'am. Miss." He says with a nod. We nod back, and I have a bad feeling about him. He looks at the baby weirdly, then they get on their bikes. I wish Din a happy hunt before they drive away.

"I have a bad feeling about that guy." I sigh as Peli and I head back into the hangar.

"Oh, you have that weird magic your parents have? Listen to it, it helped me back then. They sniffed out a guy who tried to rob me." She says. I try not to worry about Din, and once we get the baby to sleep again, we work on the fuel leak. We need a few parts, so I hand Peli the necessary credits for them.

It takes all day, but by nightfall we got the ship fixed and sparkling. I smile as I look it over, proud of the work we did today. Peli calls my real name, and I feel great having an actual name. I turn around, seeing the table is set with a nice dinner. I smile and sit with her, thanking her for cooking.

"Hey, thank you for buying the ingredients! Haven't had a good bit of steak in years, so this is a treat for both of us!" She smiles. I laugh, happy to give her such a treat. We enjoy dinner, and even the kid likes it. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know the kid's name, would you?" She asks.

"No. Just like me in the vegetable basket, he didn't have anything on him to tell us his name." I sigh, sitting back. She nods and the kid is happily cooing in his seat.

"So... I meant to ask you earlier. Are you and that Mandalorian.... A thing?" She asks. I can't keep the smile off my face. I nod. "How!? I mean, with the helmet and all?" She gasps.

"There are loopholes we work with. But I don't mind. The helmet is part of him, and I wouldn't change him just because I'm curious about his face." I tell her. She tells me she doesn't judge, because she dated a Jawa some time ago.

I laugh and look up at the stars. "You know, before today, I didn't know when my birthday was. This is the first time I've celebrated it. Thank you, Peli. Knowing my name, my parents' names, and my date of birth, it's the best gift anyone can give me." I look back at her and she has a soft expression on her face.

"I'm glad I could give that to you. You're a good person. And your parents were the nicest people I met. I hope they're ok, and that you find them one day." She says. I nod, and look back at the sky. One of those stars has Greylandia orbiting it. One day Din, the kid and I will find it.
