Basking in the early morning sun, the two languidly laid side by side half covered by the covers. Her back rested against his chest as Kakashi imprisoned her in his arms. His left hand lazily rubbed her flat belly, sometimes his finger ran circles around her belly button.
His warm hand against her smooth belly felt reassuring and comforting. She was humming a song unfamiliar to him and for a second he thought it might've been a song from her childhood but she never told any stories about it and he never asked.
Although he had told her all of his thoughts and his stories laying out his organs bare for her to see. She never talked about it, never coming up on the myriad of stories she told.
"It's about that time isn't it?" She asked, her index finger tracing the prominent nerves on his arm, he remembered her kissing his scars the night before and blushed profusely trying not to lose his cool.
"You mean the chunin exams?"
He felt her nod, then, he faked a cough as one of her feet began to playfully rub it against his legs. She stopped humming, the sensations of the hair on his legs, thin and spiky, silver too like the bush he kept hidden tickling her foot.
"Nhira.." He groaned, tightening his hold on her, his muscles flexing she laughed and didn't stop. "Puppy, how old were you when you became chunin?"
"Six. I was a genius. I was Jonin at twelve." He tried to brag about it but couldn't fake it as memories of those times began to resurface, like phantoms with their cold, haunting touch.
He felt her stiffen, surprised, and then Nhira turned around, her eyes glassy. "W-what's wrong?" He panicked, it was a strange reaction especially the hurt reflected from her clear, beautiful blue eyes.
"That must've been hard." Her voice was wobbly, eyes shaking threatening to spill tears for his tragic childhood. 'Ah, no one's ever cried for me, nor grieved my childhood.' It was so new to him, so exhilarating, so... So much that he fell in love all over again.
She reached out and gently caressed his face as she slowly reached out and kissed his chin. The little touches and the soft kiss were a comfort unlike any before. He laughed, his heart feeling lighter.
"I'm okay now. Don't cry, baby."
"I know. I know.." She nodded weakly as she hugged him and cuddled closer, using her soft and warm body to comfort him. "What about you? How was your chunin exam?"
'Come to think of it, I've never really seen her even back then. Was she part of the special exams?'
"Well, my adoptive father introduced me to shinobi life when I was eleven and yeah, he personally overlooked my training and all that. When I was fifteen, he endorsed me for the special exams since I didn't make it in time to fit into a squad.
Apparently I did really good, I skipped chunin and was promoted directly to jonin."
It was his turn to be surprised, eyes wide. He was impressed and very, very proud to be the lover of such a genius woman.
"Directly to Jonin?!"
She smirked, "Well, you're not the only genius in the Leaf." She told him confidently. Kakashi watched her, as he always did, his thoughts a little distracted. He thought about his own genin and what they were to face.
"You think the kids should?"
Nhira didn't answer him directly, instead, she redirected it back to him. "What about you? It's your discretion."
"You're their teacher too."
She laughed but in her mind, a thought resounded, 'Sham of a teacher.' "Personally no, but that's because I'm scared they'll get hurt well, at their level it wouldn't hurt. Most shinobi take the exam at their age. Besides if they fail, they can just try again. Failure will teach them something too."
