"When does the reason become the blame?"
-Just A Man, EPIC: The Troy Saga, Jorge Rivera-HerransKakashi remembered his excitement as he was on his way. He remembered whistling and walking like he was on clouds. He remembered her cheerful suggestion, "Puppy, I'm in the mood for chicken wings. I'll order some from my favourite place and we can go on a picnic."
It made him happy, she hadn't been eating well since he returned. He kissed her and said "Yes." With a soft tone.
But now, when he arrived there was one of his closest friends. Someone akin to a brother, one of the pillars of his sanity holding a kunai, the black blade glinting with the light of the sinking sun, ready to stab his lover through the heart.
'So you really did go through with it.'
And although he understood his friend's motivation and his reasons, somehow it was unacceptable even knowing full well that if he and Yamato switched places, he might do the same thing.
But the pain he felt over the ordeal was excruciating. Trust breaking. Raw.
He saw Nhira and concluded that there must've been a fight shortly before he arrived. The tears she cried made his heart twist in agony. He couldn't bear to see it. His lover was harmed. Hurt.
It was a wrath without anger, just fury and all of it towards his friend. He freed Nhira from her confines and shielded her with his body.
"Nhira, stay behind me. I'll explain everything later."
"Kakashi, I'm fine. Let him go."
He turned towards, Yamato and recalled everything they'd been through and yet, he had made his decision. His fists clenched, jaw tight and heartbreaking. He told his old friend, with a cold and firm voice,
"For the sake of our friendship, I won't kill you, Tenzo. But if you do this again, I don't know what I'll do or if I can even stop."
It was game over.
'I can't do it. Even if I try now, Kakashi-senpai will block me.'
Yamato grits his teeth, struggling to get out but his resolve has turned to solid iron. As he retreated, he promised to see what started through.
'I could tell him it was the Lord Third's orders. No, the surveillance was but not her murder. Besides, I cannot implicate Lord Third. Now I know Senpai will choose her side no matter what.'
He returned to the base he was assigned, tired and the faith he had just shattered. He sat on his bed, still dripping from the shower he just had. Yamato covered his face with his hands, letting out shaky breath.
'How could Kakashi-senpai change so much?'
Her smile, cold and scheming directed at him flashes in his mind. He shivered, involuntarily. "I underestimated her." Now that he had some time, he was able to clear his thoughts.
Yamato finally understood what happened. He had been tricked. He laid on the bed, sore muscles relaxing. "She orchestrated it from the beginning. From the information that's been circulating. No, even before that, from the moment she met Kakashi-senpai, it's all calculated."
At that point he didn't which to call it, a tragedy, he decided. A tragedy that Kakashi Hatake who's been suffering all his life, putting others outside his walls and keeping them at arm's length falls in love with a seductress who pretends to love him.
'How cruel.'
Yamato closes his eyes, still thinking about it all. All the more determined to save his friend from the clutches of evil. Before he realised it, he had fallen asleep.
