Chapter 16: one by one, squad three and engine 81 entered the building and called for paramedics 'Dawson, we need a paramedic,we got a victim on the first floor, fell down the stairs and could have a possible broken neck' Casey radioed. Dawson and shay ran into the building and attended to the person, the radio went static and kept cutting out until chief Boden heard Casey yell over the radio 'pull back, open fire spreading! It's flammable! Pull back!', there was an explosion and all the radios went dead ' oh god, engine 81, squad 3, report!' Chief Boden called over the radio as the dust cleared 'anyone, report!'. As the dust cleared everyone got up 'mills, Herrmann, Cruz, you ok?' Severide said, Herrmann coughed 'yeah we're good', 'Casey, report' Severide called over the radio 'yeah I'm good, I'm just trying to find shay and Dawson'. As Severide and Casey ran down the stairs they saw shay unconscious in a pool of her own blood as Dawson was doing CPR on her ' come on shay, come on' Dawson said crying, Casey grabbed her shoulder 'gabby...gabby...' Dawson pushed him away and fought against him 'let go of me!' She screamed as they tried to take shay's body away. Severide looked at Dawson and then fell to the floor 'why, shay, why did this happen!' He said as sobs racked through his body.
