Austin's POV
Kristina says "my mom texted me to go to the store and get a list of things for tonight. Guess we're grilling and she said your mom said Eric knows what to buy for meat." Eric says "alright, why does she want for meat?" She says "teriyaki chicken. She also wants to make shrimp kebabs. She said you know what to buy. Then S'mores stuff and something the kids will like. Very descriptive." Eric says "that's descriptive enough, I know what I'm doing." We get in the car and he quickly pulls out of the parking lot.Eric says "will we be keeping you too late tonight?" I say "no, mom didn't give me a curfew tonight. I probably should leave at eleven thirty at the absolute latest." He says "graduation starts at ten tomorrow?" I say "yeah, I don't need much sleep for that. My graduations gonna last at least four hours. My school is like three times the size of yours." Eric says "Jesus Christ." I nod saying "yeah" and he rests his hand on my thigh saying "it'll be fine. I wish you could spend the night tonight." I say "you can stay at my house tomorrow night."
He says "I can?" I say "of course you can, we gotta have the debrief after you meet my family." Eric mumbles "yeah, debrief. That's funny" and we chuckle and I say "we'll call it a debrief with a child in the car." Kristina says "I'm older than Eric." Eric says "yeah, one year. What a difference." We chuckle and we go into this meat market once Eric parks. I mumble "didn't know I could come in here and buy you." Eric chuckles saying "if you could buy me anywhere, it would be here. You got a discount."
I say "hundred percent off" chuckling and Eric says "we'd probably buy you at a coffee shop in Brunswick that has a pride flag in the window that allows pets." I laugh saying "you just thought of the gayest thing and said 'yup, that's good,' didn't you?" He says "I sure did" us laughing and Kristina says "that's a good place. We'll take you there sometime." I say "that's a real place?" Eric says "yes, I love that place. I bought you there." I chuckle saying "ok, meat man. Let's go."
Eric goes up to the meat counter and says "my guy, how's it going?" The guy takes his glove off and they shake hands and he says "Eric. I'm good. You graduated and how's your mom?" Eric says "she's good and I did. She sent me in for her usual and something she can make for kids. What do kids like?" I say "I don't know? Hot dogs?" The guy chuckles saying "the stuff looks really good this week. Do you want some hours now that you'll be out of school?" Eric says "if we can be flexible, sure, I'll take some. Gotta buy books, ya know?"
The guy says "I don't need you Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. I mean maybe sometimes, but not always." Eric says "if it's only those four days, give me all you got. That would be good." The guy starts bagging stuff up for him and says "I'm Jerry" and I say "Austin." Jerry says "so you're the priority over work for this guy?" I say "not to brag, but by the sounds of it, yes." We chuckle and Jerry says "he gets us the most sales. I think it's his eyes. We gotta put a sign up when he's working or put his hours on a sign."
I chuckle saying "he's just got a pretty face. He'll make you double if you take his shirt off." Eric says "don't give him any ideas. To raise money for me to go do something for school, we did a sexy car wash out front. We got a bunch of friends to do it and that would get me some books for next year." We laugh and Jerry says "maybe instead of working, you could just do that." I say "I'd get nothing done if I knew that was happening" chuckling.
Kristina comes back saying "I got the s'mores stuff." Eric gives her his card saying "go buy some of those Reese's thins too." She says "ok" and wanders off again. Jerry gives us the bag and Eric says "I'd like to not work next week, but every other week I'll take Monday through Thursday." Jerry says "I'll text you, whatever you can do we'll take it. The people around here love you" chuckling and I say "Eric Fan Club. Pay ten extra dollars to go toward Eric's books and the first five people to invest get a tshirt."
Jerry says "he's onto something, Eric." I chuckle and Eric says "he's the smart one in the relationship. He has good ideas" and I say "ok. You're the smart one here. I'm just here to look cute." Jerry chuckles saying "well, you're doing a very good job" and he gives Eric a receipt saying "just give this to the front counter. She'll ring you up" and we go over to the front counter. Eric says "how you doing, grandma?" The woman says "I'm good, Eric. How's your mom?" Eric says "she's good, we're grilling tonight" as she rings him up.
Kristina says "here's your card" handing him his credit card. He says "thanks, Kris" handing the woman his card. She does her thing saying "so who's this boy?" Eric says "this is Austin" and she says "so this is who your mom was telling me about." Eric says "probably" and she says "he is cute" and I smile. She says "if we had both of you working here, we'd have to get a second location for all the money we're making." We chuckle and I say "I'm working in New Hampshire this summer. Dancing with the kiddies." We chuckle and Eric says "you're cute. I gotta get out of here, catch y'all on the flip."
We chuckle and we go out to the car and we go to a grocery store to pick up vegetables. We get back to his house and he says "ma, I'm home" and hands all the groceries off to her when she puts her arms out. She says "is the receipt in the bag?" Eric says "yes, it is" and she's says "I'll pay you back later, just remind me." He says "yup" and we go and sit in the living room. I scoot into his side, resting my head on his shoulder. I say "I missed you" quietly and he says "I miss you too" him kissing my cheek.
