Austin's POV
We all go outside and I say "what are you playing?" Eric's dad says "cribbage" focused in on something. He says "ten" and Eric's grandfather says "oh bullshit" throwing his cards down. He sighs saying "two" and moves. His wife smirks saying "sixteen." His grandfather says "you guys suck" and they keep playing. I say "I've never seen it before" and Eric says "we play all the time." His dad says "would you light the grill, Eric?" Eric says "yeah" going over to it and lighting it. He says "I'm gonna clean this thing" going inside and he comes back with a brush and cleaner and a bottle of water. He just does his thing and takes his shirt off, throwing it over his shoulder. Eric's dad says "dumbasses use a grill shirtless" and I mumble "or a whore." Eric turns around, his hands on his hips, and says "what did you say?" I say "I do not need to say what I said in front of your family." He blushes lightly, saying "you called me a whore, didn't you?" I laugh saying "I did. You know me so well." He says "or I could just be hot" and going back to doing his thing. I say "damn right you are" chuckling and Sarah and Emily run out saying "swimming! Swimming!"
Eric's dad says "leave the pool gate open when you go in" and they both yell "ok!" I chuckle and Eric says "babe?" I say "Eric" and he says "could you take my shirt for me?" I take his shirt and I rub his back then I say "I'm taking this home." He says "that is fine" and I say "I'm a winner tonight" going to throw his shirt in my car. I go back outside and Eric's grandmother says "let me teach you how to play, my child" motioning to me. I go over and sit in Eric's dads spot and Eric sits in the seat across from me.
She says "Eric, you wanna play?" He says "yeah" and he shuffles then deals saying "so, come here often?" I chuckle and he just smirks at me and his grandmother says "show me what you've got." I show her my cards and she says "that is really good. Good deal, Eric" and Eric says "shush, I got nothing over here." She says "Eric gets the crib since he dealt." I say "so what do I do?" She says "so this is going to give him points, so whatever cards might not give him points is what you put there. You put two cards in." I say "so what's my goal?"
She says "you want to be able to add to fifteen, have runs and make pairs or have multiple of a kind. So don't give him anything that would do that." I pull out a couple cards and she says "yes, very good." I put them face down in his pile on the table. Eric taps my foot with his and he puts two down then says "you start, babe." She says "whatever you do, don't start with that five. You add up to thirty one then it starts over. I'll help you but start with your ten."
I put my card down and Eric says "fifteen for two" moving his peg on the board and I say "what does that mean?" His grandmother says "just keep going. If you evenly hit fifteen, you get points. You just cant go over thirty one" and I say "ok. Twenty one." Eric says "twenty three" and I say "thirty one" and she says "move your peg two places." I move it saying "am I a winner yet?" She says "you will be" chuckling and I say "good, I can't lose to him." She says "that one" and I say "seven" and he says "fourteen." I say "fifteen for two?" I put an ace down and she says "put the second peg two spots from the last one."
Eric says "dang, eight, seven, and two tens. Wow, could be better, could be worse" chuckling. I keep learning how to play as we go and Eric wins. I say "I'm not gonna remember a single piece of that" and Eric says "no one remembers the rules the first several times. Don't worry about it." I say "I lost, what do I do now?" His grandmother says "I'll beat him for you" and I get up, letting her take my seat. I pull a chair over right next to Eric and I kiss his shoulder. I rest my head on his shoulder and he says "you alright?" I look at him and I say "yeah" then moving my head back to his shoulder.
Eric slowly gets up so I have time to move. He says "I'll be back, g ma. Deal me in." His grandmother says "he's a weird child, isn't he?" I say "he is, but he's cute so he gets away with it." She chuckles saying "that's the worst decision he's ever made, letting me go first." He comes back with two bottles of water. He says "drink, you look hot." I say "I'm too hot to even come up with a joke for that one" taking it from him. He sits down and drink my water while I watch them play. Eric says "grandma, you moved fifteen when you said fourteen."
She says "did I?" Eric says "you did and you know it" chuckling. She chuckles and winks at me and I just giggle at Eric. I rest my hand on his upper thigh saying "it's an extra for good luck" and he rolls his eyes at me. I chuckle and he says "alright, fifteen two, fifteen four, fifteen six, and a three of a kind is nine." He lays his cards down and loves his peg to his spot and says "I'm winning now." She says "not for long." They keep playing and she beats him saying "good game, except you lost."
Eric says "now that's just rude" chuckling and his dad says "foods ready. Time to get out of the pool, girls!" Emily says "we don't want to!" Eric says "you can go back in after" going in the fence to offer them his hand. He pulls them right out and Leo says "stop flexing on us, Eric. We get it, you're strong." Eric chuckles and flexes his arms saying "you love it, Leo." Leo says "he might but I don't." I say "don't bring me into this, I'm just enjoying the show." Everyone chuckles and the girls come and sit at the table.
