Austin's POV
I say "let's stand up" and Vince says "ten bucks you can't freestyle a warm up." I say "I need money. I gotta buy gas. I'll freestyle a warm up." Everyone chuckles and I say "what kind of warm up do we want today?" Vince says "use Up by Cardi B" and I laugh saying "that would be fun. Are you guys down? I think Vince just wants to see me shake my ass." We all laugh and I say "alright, let's get it. Just watch in the mirror and follow my lead. You don't have to go all out if you don't feel the need. We're warming up."I say "get the shakes out, let's go." I play the song and I start doing high knees saying "focus on the stretch!" When I hear the lyrics come in more, I say "ok! Jump to a second position and stay down there. Lunge and the other side! All the way down and if you can, have fun with it." I bounce a bit in mine just to wake my legs up then I say "one hand out, one near the ear! Switch! Switch! Switch! Yes! And bring it around, don't forget to step" as I rotate my hips and move one foot to move me in a circle.
We work through the song and I say "very good. Ok, let's go back to the floor, my legs are hurting. So, we need to find a song for choreo and how we want to go about it." Vince says "I'm coming of help" quietly and he sits next to me saying "what do you girls think?" I say "yeah, I just remembered I have somewhat of a syllabus. This is how I'm going to run this class. Today, we're just going to get to know each other, stretch, just kinda hang out. I'm gonna see what your experience is and stuff like that. No pressure. Then tomorrow, we're gonna do tumbling and breakdancing just to see what we could add into our choreo. Then the next day we will have choreography to work on. Friday is freestyle throw down and lock in. It's pretty self explanatory. Every Friday of camp, we spend the night in the studio and host a freestyle battle and parents can come watch if they want. Then we'll lock in and have breakfast together in the morning then there will be a whole group yoga session in studio seven. Then on Saturday we'll just work on our choreo and you can go home at noon then have Sunday off."
I say "what do you guys want to do a dance to? It's summer intensives, you can do whatever you want for a song, so go crazy." One girl says "anything?" I say "if it's not clean, I'll have to send a form home to have your parents sign. Anyway, it could be actually anything." They all shrug and I say "I'm a year older than you, I listen to what you guys do. Seriously, pick a song." Another one of them say "seriously? Like I could say Ice Spice and you wouldn't say no?" All these girls are testing me, I see.
I say "I would never say no to Ice Spice, how about I play my potential songs playlist that I made for you guys and we can see if we're thinking the same thing." I hook my phone up to the speaker system and I play the playlist that has everything on it that would be needed for a hip hop choreo. I have from Ice Spice to Jack Harlow to Pitbull. This is a class full of girls, so it's really a mixed bag. Vince says "I do love Ice Spice. She's fire. I don't think I could choreograph to that for the life of me."
I say "oh Vince, we can choreograph anything. There's more than Boys A Liar ya know. What's your tea, guys? We gotta gossip if we're gonna be friends, let's be real." One of the girls say "I've been talking to someone online but my mom would never approve that I'm dating online. She's old like that or I'm really out of my depth." I say "I'm really biased. Vince, what do you think?" Vince says "it worked out well for you. If you're careful, I think it's great. I've never tried it though."
I say "I met my man online and were still together, so. How'd you meet Nick?" Vince says "at the party we went to awhile ago." I say "and you just dipped?" Vince says "he slipped me his number and he had a girlfriend." I say "damn, you're good." Vince says "yeah, he's fun" and I chuckle saying "hot guys can never take a hint. Let's be real." A few of the girls nod and one says "amen."
I say "they're so cute though" and Vince says "I'm glad they're friends." I chuckle saying "they are intellectuals, dear. They can talk about smart people things with each other." Vince chuckles saying "you'll be fine as long as you aren't being catfished." I say "so true. Also, if they live near you, it's better." Vince says "let's do this song." One of the girls say "Lizzo? Isn't she cancelled?" Vince says "desperate art from artist or is this an R Kelly level cancelled thing?"
Angela says "not R Kelly level but cancelled enough for it to not leave my brain when I hear this song." I say "that's fair" and I say "want to choreo tonight?" Vince says "I'm taking a yoga class tonight" and I say "you mean, taking a bath and hoping your boyfriend texts you that he's coming over to cuddle you?" Vince says "yeah, I don't do yoga." We all laugh and I say "I know you so well." We listen to songs and just talk until lunch then we finally find a song in the afternoon. Vince says "I'm hype, I love a Doja Cat moment."
I say "me too, this song will be so fun. We can always screw with the stage lighting. It'll be a whole vibe. We can get on it right now. We have an hour." Vince says "play it again" quietly and I play Paint The Town Red by Doja Cat again. He stands up and just does his thing saying "we could open with some side steps then arms up and drop on famous instead." I say "wow, you're great at this" and he says "play it from the beginning again" and I do. I say "I think we should do a walk on when the song starts, not before or anything like that." Vince says "that sounds good" nodding.
