Austin's POV
I say "let's get it. This is for real today, get in the zone and get ready. Remember, when we go out, to have fun." We all nod and Vince and I go into our own corner and do our thing. We jump around, getting all our shakes out. I sigh saying "my heart is racing" and Vince grabs my wrist saying "you're fine. It's normal" and I say "I know, but I hate it." A backstage manager says "your group is up next. Jacklyn wants to switch your duo to last."I say "ok, let's go" quietly and our group goes into the wings. We're all in one side and I mumble "let's get it. You all will do great and have fun, we know our shit. Do it and do it well." We get announced and we all go out. Vince and I do our handshake as we go onstage and we get to our positions. Ballet and everything else always takes the first half of the showcase then hip hop takes the second. People will move chairs and crowd the stage for hip hop.
It's much more casual, a lot of people are just rabid when we come out. It makes you feel famous for all of five minutes. I hear a few screams and I wave at Sarah and Emily on Eric and Leo's shoulders. I say "let's get it, boys. Give it everything you've got." I jump around, waiting for my song to start and we go after mentally counting ourselves in. A bunch of the girls in the crowd are just going nuts. When we finish we all go up to the front of the stage, the girls wanting to squeeze our hands. I smile and Eric is at the front of the stage and I ruffle his hair.
I blow a kiss at him then Vince and I get ready for our quick change. We start changing as soon as the next people are walking on. It's the girl group with their small crop tops and high waisted shorts. I hear a few catcalls from guys most likely but then it's drowned out by girls hyping them up in the crowd. I smile saying "I love women" and I put on my crop top just like the rest of the ladies in the hip hop side of the company. They run off and I say "you guys were awesome, don't listen to the men."
They smile and a few say "thanks, Austin. We're sticking around to watch you and Vince." I say "if you want to go to the front of the stage, there's a few guys that'll keep you safe if you want front row spots." A girl says "you are amazing" and Vince and I go onto the stage, do our handshake, and I see the girls barricaded right to the front with Eric and Leo and the girls surrounding them as another barrier. I say "you ready?" He says "last one ever for us. Let's do this" and I smile then our song starts. We bounce around for a second then we go right into it.
The girls are screaming about our crop tops alone I'm sure. Then when we essentially throw it back at the beginning we get more screams and encouragement. I smirk and when we finish, we go up to the front of the stage and bow. He says "I know I'll be here as your personal assistant this summer but I love you, man and I'm gonna miss doing shit like this together." I say "we'll be back, I'm gonna need a partner for a mid term project in college I'm sure but I love you too, dude." He says "we're the coolest people I know." I say "we are the coolest people I know too."
The girls at the front are saying "we love you!" I say "we'll be back to say hi. Don't worry" chuckling and we go backstage to come out with everyone for bows. Once all the senior and or principal dancers come out, we stay on stage. The ballet teacher comes out and does speeches about her senior and principal dancers. It's either seniors in high school who are leaving or people that are principal dancers not coming back. Then Jacklyn comes on as the ballet students walk off along with their teacher.
Jacklyn sighs and says "I really don't know what to say. I wrote some special notes to you guys and we're gonna keep it casual cause I know I'll see you guys throughout the summer and so I don't cry. I'll pass the microphone down and just say your name, what your future endeavors are gonna be, and how long you've been here and what your rank is in the company. Also maybe what classes you've taken unless your Austin." I chuckle and she hands the microphone to a guy in my class at the opposite end of me. I am officially last. Great. I might cry.
When the microphone gets to Vince he says "hi, I'm Vince and I am going to University of New Hampshire with my best buddy to study education. I might switch majors to dance though, who knows. I have been here for fourteen years now and I am a double first rank senior dancer. The ranks are made up but that's the highest I can get without being hired and I've been at this rank for three years now. I've taken ballet, hip hop, tap, jazz, and I think that's it."
I smile and I say "hi, I'm best buddy. I'm Austin and I'm going to University of New Hampshire to major in dance with a focus in education. I have been here for fourteen years also and I am also a double first rank senior dancer and we got picked at the same time. So, three years ago I was picked and if this company offers the class, I've taken it. I've also taken classes with a lot of people from all over the world. That's why she said for me to not list anything cause we'd be here awhile. If you're taking the hip hop intensive this summer, you will no doubt spend a lot of time with me as a teacher and Vincent as my self nominated personal assistant."
People chuckle and clap for all of us then I say "I'll see you Monday, Jackie!" She says "I'll see ya!" We go change into street clothes then we go out to the auditorium. Angela walks over to me saying "you did so well!" I say "I didn't even see you! Thank you! Can I have a hug?" She hugs me saying "you're sweaty but I appreciate you." I chuckle saying "I know, stage lights are much hotter than anyone thinks." Eric comes over with Emily on his shoulders and hands me flowers. He says "you did so well, baby" kissing me and I say "thank you" smiling.
