Eric's POV
Austin and Johns daughter, Angelina, walk by the glass walled meeting room. They both wave and put their sunglasses on. I say "she's gonna be quite the handful if you keep letting her hang out with Austin." They both do their little hair flip and walk out of the building. John says "she'll be top of her class if I let her hang out with you." I chuckle saying "you're too much, I'll see you later, John. I bought some Bordeaux wine when I was in France for a conference. We'll have to open it tonight."John says "save it for your partner." I say "I'm smart, I bought two bottles" winking at him. John says "and how much was that?" I say "I'm not saying that" chuckling and Austin and Angelina come in. Angelina comes up to me saying "uncle Eric, we're out of money" looking at me over her sunglasses. John says "go ask your father, Angie" and I look at Austin saying "I know you're up to this." Austin smiles and says "I need gas money and we want ice cream. I can buy dunkin on my own." I pull a one hundred dollar bill out of my wallet saying "buy yourself something nice" handing it to Angelina.
She says "ice cream!" Austin chuckles saying "thank you, Eric." I say "you're welcome, dear" and he leaves with Angelina. One of the kids from earlier knock then open the door saying "coach, what are we doing today?" John says "just go to the weight room, I'll be down" and they leave then the headmaster says "meeting adjourned." John says "wanna join us?" I say "what am I joining?" John says "competitive bodybuilding" and I say "that's my wheelhouse, let's do it. Do you lift too?" John says "it makes it easier to get the kids into it if I do and I can look good while I work."
We walk down the hallway and I say "dude, I'll work in, we can up your weight. I'll spot." John says "dude, you're my favorite family member." I say "I have a change of clothes in my car, I'll be back." I go out to my car, grab my clothes then I go to the bathroom to change. I meet John in the weight room and I say "what are we doing today?" John says "we're doing push" and I say "dude, it's my push day too." Four guys come in and two girls come in and John says "alright it's push today. We're doing a four by four on bench. Start with a warm up just with the bar then slowly subtract weight as each sets go on."
John adds like three things to the board and says "bench. Incline flies. Tricep push downs. Lat raises. Keep the weight heavy and if you're dying, walk it off. Rest between your sets. We're doing PRs tomorrow, so fully recover and we'll hit it tomorrow. Ok, people prepping for bodybuilding comp you may go." The girls step up and John says "my power lifters, how are you, ladies?" They smile but they're dialed in to lift.
John says "ok, do you guys want to do what I have written or should I mix it up?" One of the girls say "it's our pull day. What can you give us?" John says "weighted pull ups, cage rows, dumbell RDL, and lat pull downs? We can do all your PRs tomorrow and see how we want to move forward?" They nod then they leave to go lift in their own corner of the room. John says "let's go."
I say "dude, so hype to bench" and John says "what's your warm up?" I say "put a ten on for me" and I put ten on the bar on the other side. I do my set then John does his set. I say "how much do you bench?" John says "three plates" and I say "we'll go three 100 two one?" John says "yeah, let's do it" and I put the plates on one side and he does the same. One of the guys say "dude, ain't no way you bench that." I say "watch me." I get on the bench and John spots me and I do the four reps. I get up and John does the same four reps.
I say "your form is immaculate." John says "dude, you clearly have won a state title for this shit." One of the guys say "you have?" I say "Maine State Teens Division" and we get to our final set of everything when Austin and Angelina come in. She says "y'all look gross, I'm gonna go talk to the girls" and I chuckle saying "she sounds like you" to Austin. One of the guys walk over and say "how you doing?" I raise an eyebrow and Austin says "I'm good and yourself?" He says "I'm good but I'd be better if you went out with me."
Austin says "honey, I'm too old for you" and he says "age is just a number." John says "why do you not stop this?" I say "I trust him and it's rather amusing." John says "Austin, you wanna work in?" He says "I'm good, can we do a swap?" I say "one more set. We're almost done." Austin chuckles saying "alright, alright. I'll be back" and I watch him walk out to the other room with Angelina in it. I say "damn he's fine" quietly and John says "last set, get in there." John lays down and I say "let's go" lifting the weight off for him.
John gets up and I lay down then Austin comes in. I start benching and the same guy from before goes to talk to Austin. He says "come on, my ex girlfriend still says I'm pretty good even after we broke up." Austin says "why do you think I'm just hanging out here?" The kid says "I don't know? You're a student?" Austin says "keep a skin routine and exercise and you'll look like me when you're twenty five."
I say "you also need good genetics, Austin" sitting up. Austin smiles at me then says to the guy "I am not a student, I'm an alum. I'll give you another guess." I say "wow you find this amusing." Austin says "shhh." Angelina comes in and looks up at me saying "I want to show you my pull up, uncle Eric." I say "ok, I'll spot you" picking her up for the bar and she does a pull up. I say "very good, Angelina!" She laughs and smiles and I say "your father is getting you in the gym early?"
She says "he says so I can punch guys that are weird to me in the face to give them a bloody nose." I chuckle saying "as you should. They should respect you, right?" Angelina says "obviously uncle Eric." I say "you hang out with Austin too much" and she says "so do you" crossing her arms. I chuckle saying "Austin's my fiancé, Angelina. Social construct requires me to live with him" and she giggles saying "what's a social construct?" I say "a social construct is like what is traditionally done to meet everyone else's standards. Like when you shake hands with someone when you first meet them."
Angelina says "I understand. It's just kind of what you do for people to like you?" I say "not to like you, to be accepted by society more so." She says "ok. You don't always have to follow them?" I say "well, you're getting into philosophy here. A construct is just a commonly accepted idea, right? It's not like a thing that exists, it's made up basically." Angelina says "so like when someone says gender is a social construct, it's made up to further segregate the population from each other?" I say "yes, that is what they're saying. You're so smart" and she high fives me.
The guy says "you're an alum, they're here all the time. You could just be here" shrugging and Austin says "I'd never willingly come back to this shithole. I'll give you a hint, how do I know these guys?" He says "damn, you know them?" Austin says "sure do" and the teen says "you're related." I say "but how" and Austin says "are we related?" I say "ok, we're not related" and the kid says "y'all have to be like cousins or something. He's friends with coach. That's what I got." I say "I'm legally required to be his friend." Austin says "he's my fiancé" and the kid says "damn, I gotta back away now."
I say "no hard feelings" chuckling and Angelina says "dad I'm ready to go home." Austin giggles saying "Eric, me too." I say "come on, babe. I gotta go shower and tell you about my awful meeting." We walk out after saying bye and Austin says "I love you and I want to hear about your horrible meeting." I say "I love you too, I'll tell you when I get out of the shower" pecking his lips and he smiles at me.
