***2 MONTHS LATER***

"You got to fucking kidding me Steve!" I yelled as we walked into his office, and he was loosening his tie. Bucky was already waiting inside for us.

"I said what needed to be said!" Steve yelled.

"No! You need to read what I wrote you! You made those contract with Stark and now you want to back out of them! People are questioning your intentions! I was saving you! You just made it worse though!" I yelled.

"You think I wouldn't have gone off script if what you wrote didn't seem like shit the minute, I read it over?!" Steve yelled and I just shook my head.

"Okay woah! Calm down you two. Don't say something you don't mean and don't get worked up." Bucky said and then looked at me on the last part and I groaned and started pacing.

"Do you know the damage control that will have to be done right now?! Thank you for making me have extra work now!" I yelled and Steve just shrugged.

"Do your job right and you wouldn't have extra work." Steve said.

"Hey! Steve! Stop!" Bucky yelled and I just shook my head in shock.

"You're a fucking piece of work." I spoke. Before Steve could speak up there was a knock on the door.

"Come in!" Steve yelled and when the door opened Sarah came running in and up to Steve.

"Sorry Mister President she just woke up from her nap and cried for you." Maria said and Steve shook his head as Sarah buried her face in Steve's neck and I knew she had a nightmare that scared her.

"It's okay Miss Hill, thank you." Steve said and she walked out. Steve looked at me.

"I think we are done here Miss Meadows. I think you have some damage control speeches to write." Steve said and I just shook my head and then nodded.

"Steve..." Bucky groaned.

"No, it's fine Mister Vice President. Mister President is right, I have work to do...looks like I'll be working all night so whatever plans I had are now canceled." I said and looked at Steve who caught my drift. I was supposed to stay with him since I knew Sharon was out of town. Steve sighed.

"Blair..." Steve said but I walked out of his office slamming the door.

I walked into my office and sighed as I sat down. As I was working my personal cellphone rang.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Miss Meadows?"

"Yes?"

"This is Doctor Taylors office. I was calling with your test results."

I took a deep breath knowing I had been in the mood I had been recently too waiting for these results. I had a feeling I knew the answer I just needed it confirmed. This was something that again wasn't planned but was going to be an unexpected happy surprise...I hoped.

Hours later I was still sitting at my desk late into the night, mostly everyone had gone home, and I was working on damage control speeches for the next day since they were being demanded by speaker of the house Pepper Potts.

The news I had gotten earlier in the day now a distant memory and I was just working, getting everything done. As I was working there was a knock on my open office door, and I looked to see Natasha Romonoff standing there.

"Hey, I didn't know you were still here." I spoke.

"Yeah, Vice President Barnes is still here with the President, so I stuck around. I was just wandering the halls while they have a private chat." Nat said and I laughed as she walked in and sat down.

"A private conversation?" I asked.

"Yeah, Maria Hill came a few hours ago and got Sarah from the President and then I was in there working but James said he needed to talk to Steve alone." Nat said and I half nodded, and I knew it was most likely about me and Steve. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. "You okay?" Nat asked and I just sighed.

"Just one of those days. The press conference and a few other things. I'm ready to go home but I keep rewriting the speech." I said and she sighed.

"Need someone to read it over?" Nat asked and I smiled and moved over so she could come read it off my screen. As she was reading it she nodded in approval. I saw her typing and changing some things around, and I smiled as she did.

"It was perfect. Just a few little tweaks." She said and I smiled.

"Thank you." I said and I sent it off to Pepper. Nat then sighed and leaned on my desk.

"Can I ask you something?" Nat asked and I nodded.

"Of course." I spoke.

"Did you and James ever date?" Nat asked and I looked at her in shock.

"No, Bucky and I are just really good friends." I said and I saw her give a slight sight of relief.

"I was just wondering because he asked me out to dinner this weekend and I accepted I just didn't want it to be weird for you." Nat said and I shook my head with a small smile.

"No, we were never a thing." I said and she smiled.

She was about to speak up again when I saw someone else appear at my door and it was Bucky.

"Hey Nat, can I speak to Blair alone please?" Bucky asked and she nodded.

"Thanks again." I said and she nodded. As Nat passed bucky he grabbed her hand and gave it a small squeeze and she smiled. Bucky then looked at me and I knew what he was wondering.

"They called after I left his office...my assumptions were right..." I said and Bucky smiled, and I just shrugged.

"What's wrong?" Bucky asked.

"After today, if I go see him again, I'm going to punch him in his perfect face." I said and Bucky laughed.

"Blair..."

I just sighed and just leaned back in my chair.

"Yeah well, he isn't giving me a reason not to." I said and Bucky nodded in agreement but just sighed.

"Just start tomorrow fresh and tell him." Bucky suggested.

"Yeah probably." I spoke.

Before anything else could be said we noticed tons of secret service go running and panicking in the halls.

"Vice President Barnes! Miss Meadows. Can you please come with us." Sam asked.

"Is there a threat Sam?" Bucky asked as I got up from my desk.

"President Rogers requested both of you join him in his living quarters." Sam said and we both looked at Sam confused but quickly followed him to the living quarters. Once we walked in Sarah ran to me and jumped in my arms and started crying in my neck. I looked at Steve and sat next to him on the couch, he seemed in shock.

"Steve...?" Bucky asked sitting on his other side.

"Sharon is dead." Steve said still in shock.

"What?!" I asked in shock.

"She was in a head on car crash with a drunk driver, her and her driver are both dead." Steve said and I went to grab his hand to hold it being comforting but he didn't accept it and brushed it off. I didn't think anything of it as Sarah cried against my neck and I rubbed my hand up and down her back.

"I need to put her to bed." Steve said and I shook my head.

"She won't go down right now Steve...I can do it when she falls asleep." I said and he shook his head and took Sarah from me easily.

"She is my daughter Miss Meadows, I will take care of her. You need to go do your job and stop trying to be a mother to her. You will never be her mother, her mother is now dead." Steve said coldly. I felt tears prick my eyes.

"Steve!" Bucky growled as Steve walked to Sarah's room and shut the door. I dropped my gaze to the promise ring. "He didn't mean it Blair." Bucky said. I just shook my head slightly. I slid the ring off my finger.

"Well, I mean this..." I trailed off leaving the ring on the coffee table. "Looks like I'm alone again." I said and left the living quarters.
