23 - The Aftermath

***STEVE POV***

I walked into the hospital and was ushered quickly to the ward where Blair and Sarah were which was a private floor, I was thankful for this.

As I walked in, I saw Bucky and Nat sitting in the waiting room and Sarah was on Bucky's lap.

"DADDY!" She screamed and ran to me. I picked her up and held her to me grateful to have her in my arms. "Too tight..." Sarah said, and I realized I was probably crushing her. I pulled her away from me and I saw she had some cuts on her arms, legs, face and a cast on her left wrist, hot pink...shocker.

"Hey, you, okay?" I asked her and she nodded.

"I'm fine. I got a cast and mommy saved me from being any worse." Sarah said and my heart leapt in my throat.

"Where is Blair?" I asked more to Bucky as the doctor came walking out to see me.

"Mister President if you would like to follow me. I can take you to your wife." The doctor said and I put Sarah down.

"I want to go with you..." Sarah whined. I crouched down to her level.

"Let me go check on her first and then we will come and get you." I said and she nodded but walked back over to Bucky after I kissed her cheek. I followed the doctor back to a room and my heart stopped when I got to the doorway and saw Blair awake and sitting up in bed.

***BLAIR POV***

I was awake when the ambulance took me to the hospital, and I panicked the entire time since I wasn't with Sarah the whole ride. I also informed the paramedics I was pregnant, and they told me they would get a fetal monitor on me at the hospital. Once I got in the did an x-ray of my wrist and it was broken so I had a cast on my right wrist and my ankle had gotten twisted in the wreck, so it was wrapped up. Cuts, bumps and bruises. We were very lucky that we didn't get hit too hard.

I was now laying in the hospital bed looking at the fetal monitor and wasn't seeing any activity...I hadn't seen Sarah either which was pissing me off. I had seen Nat and she told me everything was fine, but I needed to see for myself.

I was sitting there just waiting for Steve to get there, I needed Steve. I didn't even know where he was in the flight, did he even know what happened? I mean I was sure someone called him, but did he know to come here directly once he landed...I just needed Steve. I rubbed my belly and sighed.

"I need you to be okay..." I whispered. I heard someone come to the door and I looked to see Steve standing there as tears filled my eyes. He seemed to have a slight smile on my face seeing me.

"Oh Blair..." Steve said seeing me crying. He rushed in and wrapped his arms around me joining me on the bed.

"Steve, I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened, all I could do was to think about keeping Sarah safe." I sobbed as Steve held on to me.

"Hey...shhh. It's okay. Sarah is fine. She has a cast on her wrist and some cuts. She is fine and wants to see you." Steve said and kissed the top of my head. Steve placed his hand on my stomach. "Baby Rogers?" Steve asked and I sighed shaking my head.

"I don't know...there is nothing on the fetal monitor and I wanted you here before I found anything out." I said and Steve nodded. We just laid together, with Steve holding me when there was a knock on the door, and I looked to see the OBGYN standing there with the ultrasound machine.

"Misses Rogers, are you ready to check?" She asked and I nodded as I looked at Steve. He kissed me gently as she walked in, and we both took a deep breath.

We moved the hospital gown I was in out of the way and Steve stayed on the bed with me. I closed my eyes as she placed the gel on my stomach too scared to watch and see this. I felt her put the doppler on my stomach and start looking. I heard her flip a switch and that's when I heard it, the heartbeat.

"That baby is fine." My OBGYN said with a smile to me as I turned and looked at the screen.

"It is?" I asked and she nodded.

"It is, just shock from the accident. Babies can become stunned even in the womb. How about this to help with the mood in here, we can find out the sex today if you want to know."

I looked at Steve and smiled but he pulled out his phone.

"We promised Sarah could be here when we found out." I said to the doctor, and she smiled. Soon Bucky was walking in, and Sarah ran in, and I hugged her as easily as I could Bucky walked out knowing we needed a family moment.

"Hey, we are about to find out what we are having, and I know we promised you could be the one to find out." I said and she smiled with a nod. The doctor started moving the doppler around again as we all watched and then she turned the screen and motioned for Sarah to come over and she looked at the screen as the doctor whispered something to her.

"Really?!" Sarah asked in shock and the doctor nodded.

"Well...?" Steve asked and I took ahold of his hand.

Sarah looked at both of us and smiled.

"Remember what I asked for when you told me?" Sarah asked and we nodded. "Well, you got me what I asked for!" Sarah said excitedly as the doctor turned the screen around and we saw it was a girl.

"A girl!" I said excitedly and Steve smiled as I looked at him and kissed him.

"Another girl." Steve said and I smiled.

"You love being a girl dad, don't lie." I said and he nodded.

"I really do." Steve said and I smiled as the doctor printed us some print outs and then she left leaving us to be a family. I knew we were missing celebrating with Calvin, but he was safe at home with Maria, and he was too young to be here.

We laid there and Steve placed a hand on my stomach.

"I don't know what I would have done if I lost any of you." Steve said looking at Sarah and I.

"Hey, we are here, we are safe, and everything is going to be fine. Just some cuts and bruises. Nothing too serious." I said and Steve nodded.

"Well as long as I have you all in my life, that's all I need." Steve said and he leaned in and gave me a kiss causing Sarah to gag which made us break apart laughing.
