I'm outside sitting on a bench in Scarlett's garden after just delivering her daughter. I'm actually really proud of myself that I was able to deliver Rose and there were no complications. It's not just Scarletts baby either that I have to take some time to myself, it's all babies I deliver. From my past experience of being pregnant for nine months and loosing my baby at the very end, it's hard to see others get what I didn't.
I hear a door close from behind me making me turn around "hey" Melanie smiles coming to sit next to me "hi". I move over and pull my dress over my legs "you did so well in there" "thank you". She tucks a strand of hair behind my ear making me look at her "your mom would be so proud" my eyes fill with tears and I lean on her "I know I can't say how you feel because I haven't been through what you have but it's okay to feel the way you do. That's what I'm trying to say" I sit up and smile "thank you. Why are you out here, shouldn't you be with your daughter and granddaughter?" "I should but I wanted to come and talk to you. Plus Scarlett wants you" "is everything okay? Is she in pain?" Melanie shakes her head "no, she just wants you up there".
I go into the bedroom and this time Scarlett is laying on the bed "there she is. The miracle woman" Scarlett whispers, Lizzie comes over to me and cups my face "where did you go? Are you okay?" I nod "yeah I'm fine" I smile. I go over to Scarlett "how are you feeling? Do you need anything?" She shakes her head "Im fine, just a bit sore. Do you want to hold her?" I think "obviously I want to hold her. I did most the hardwork anyway" I joke making her frown. She passes me Rose and I smile down at the little purple monster "you look just like your mummy" I whisper and stroke her nose. Lizzie rests her chin on my shoulder "your a natural" she whispers making me smile "she's her auntie. Aunties always have the majic touch" Scarlett says making me blush.
Scarlett asks everyone to leave except me, so I sit on the bed next to her still holding rose in my arms. "Thanks for coming, you didn't need to. I could probably have done it on my own" she jokes "I did have to, your my sister from another mister. I'd hate for anything to happen. Especially to this little purple monster" I smile looking down at Rose. I lay her on my lap and runs my fingers over her tummy making her face scrunch "come on Rosie, let me see those beautiful eyes I know you have" I whisper and soon enough she opens them. Big green orbs just like her mum "she doesn't have a hint of Romain on her'
I say admiring the baby. I pick her up and hold her on my shoulder since she's so tiny "so when are you and Lizzie making me an aunt?" "Not before we get married. Plus, we might not even want kids" I shrug. Her eyebrows raise "don't lie to me. I know you both want kids" I smell Rose and she smells incredible "okay fine, maybe we do but I might not even be able to get pregnant anymore" "who says it has to be you? Lizzie can carry right". She has a point, even though I might not be able to conceive Lizzie might be able to. We've never had a proper discussion about it.
Rose started whining so i showed Scarlett how to feed her without paying to much attention on her chest. "I'll leave you alone for a bit. Would you like me to get anyone?" She shakes her head and I walk around the side of the bed to her "just call me if you need me. Remember to burp her afterwards, that's very important" I tell her sternly "I will. Come back though" I nod and stroke Rose's head before going downstairs. Melanies in the kitchen and Romain's in the lounge with Lizzie "is Scarlett okay?" He asks standing up quickly "yeah their both fine. She's just figuring out how to feed Rose" he goes past me and upstairs, Scarlett didn't tell me not to get anyone. I sit next to Lizzie on the sofa and she wraps her arms around my neck "there's my baby whisperer" she whispers and stares into my eyes "I love you" "I love you too". I press a soft kiss on her lips and lay down on her lap "I want one of those" Lizzie whispers stroking my face "a little purple monster?" She nods with a giggle. I lift my arms up and pull her down to kiss me "I want a puppy first and a ring on both our fingers and then we can get a little purple monster" "deal!".
I stay downstairs for a while but decide to go back upstairs to check on to see how Scarlett and Rose are doing. I nock on the door "come in!" I open it a little and and then go in fully once Scarlett smiles softly. I walk over and sit on the bed next to her "how's this beautiful girl?" I ask looking down at the sleeping baby in Scarlett's arms, she smiles and strokes her daughter's nose "she's okay". I gently take Rose from her but she still squirms a little "I know, I know. I'm sorry" I hold her to my shoulder and gently rub circles on her back "I'm stealing her" I tell the new parents and smell roses head because she smells incredible. Scarlett chuckles "she's not even a day old yet" I frown "that won't stop me, you know it won't" there's some silence so I decide to talk "your going to need to go to the hospital just to double check your both okay". Scarlett head tilts back onto the pillow and whines "nooo" I smile "you have to. You don't want anything happen do you" she shakes her head and pats the spot next to her so I sit there.
Scarlett smiles at me and lays her hand on my arm "I was going to change her but I wanted to see if you wanted to do it with me" I nod and lay rose down Infront of us "of course. Bring out the clothes". Scarlett opens a draw and takes out a selection of baby clothes "which one?" I ask looking through them all "you pick". I find a pink baby grow with with little frills on the arms, hand mittens to stop Rose scratching herself and also writing saying 'my first day'. I quickly wipe my eyes and unbutton it "are you okay? We don't have to do this now" Scarlett says rubbing my back "no no it's not that. This was going to be her coming outfit". Scarlett rubs my back whilst I lay the baby grow next to rose, I pick her up supporting her head and lay her ontop of it. "I know, I know I'm sorry" she whines as I move her fragile limbs into the clothes. I button up the baby grow and bring her back to my shoulder, Scarlett strokes her cheeks whilst I just take in the warmth from her "I've delivered a lot of babies but I've never held one who's as calm as you" I whisper pressing a soft kiss on Roses ear.
The door opens and Melanie comes in with Lizzie. They both smile seeing the three of us "can I hold her?" Lizzie whispers sitting Infront of me "no she's mine" I tell her making her role her eyes. I lean over and Lizzie takes her from me "hi sweetheart" Lizzie coos and starts giggling. She looks at me and starts smiling aswell "can I have her back now?" I ask breaking it "nooo I only just got her" I frown with a huff and fold my arms. Melanie and Scarlett laugh "when you both have kids, your going to need to have twins so this doesn't happen" Scarlett tells us "um no. One is fine thank you" I tell her and lean over to Lizzie reach Rose. "pleaseee" I beg but Scarlett pulls me back "I know you love her but Lizzie hasn't had her that long. God, your like a child" Scarlett tells me.
Scarletts in a room at the hospital with Romain and her mum checking that everything's okay from the birth. Rose has already been checked and she's healthy which is good news. Lizzie rests her head on my shoulder and strokes Roses cheeks "your so loved already" she whispers making me smile "I'm pretty sure auntie y/n has fallen in love with you quicker than she has me". Roses eyes open and we both stare down at her "there they are" I whisper and put her dummy in her mouth "I love you so much Rosie. I'm going to take you out to all the places your mum won't let you when your older" Lizzie looks up at me "I don't think you will. How am I supposed to have a baby with you when you say that?" I shrug and Rose lays her head on my chest. Her mouth open in and o shape "please can we get one. I've got baby fever" Lizzie whine holding Roses head "I have it every time I deliver a baby" "exactly so we can have one".
Everyone comes out and I stand up "is everything okay?" I check bouncing Rose in my arms "everything's fine" Scarlett smiles from in her wheelchair. I gently lay rose in her arms and Melanie pushes the wheelchair "oh shit. I've got work" I suddenly remember seeing Zara in the reception area, Lizzie looks at me and squeezes my hand "okay, you guys get home. I'll stay" Lizzie tells the rest of us "how are you going to get home?" Melanie checks "I'll go home with Y/n later. Go back home" she tells them. I rub roses head and hug Scarlett "you did so good" I whisper "only because I had you, you really are the best midwife" she smiles as I pull away. We wave as they head out to the car and Lizzie follows me to the clokeroom "I was really looking forward to getting home and having sex" she says sitting down on the bench "I've havent said we can't when I get home" I say stepping into my overalls. "How long is your shift?" "Ten hours. I won't be home until night" Lizzie sighs and stands up "why so long? I love you" I walk over to her and wrap my arms around her "I love you too. I need to go and deliver some more babies" I pull away and she strokes my cheeks "I know. I'll get a cab to take me home and drive the car up and get you later" I nod and hold her hand "okay". I show Lizzie to the door where she tells me she will wait for a taxi to arrive.
