I'm not going to lie, it's been tough since Lizzie's gone. Every morning since she's left I've been sick and I haven't had anyone to run my back or hold my hair out the way. It went on my hair once and I washed it out, it wouldn't have happened if Lizzie was here with me. I can't tell her how much I need her because she'll come running back like a lost puppy and won't do her work. Today I have my scan and I'm taking Jarnette with me since Lizzie isn't here and she wanted to come so of course I said yes. Lizzie wants me to send her a scan so that's exactly what I'm going to do.
"Leia, come here baby" I coo knealing on the wooden floor, she's been feeling the mood aswell. Leia definitely isn't as energetic as she is when Lizzie's here, when I take her on walks she doesn't leave my side. I put her little boots on to keep her paws warm and her winter coat that we got from cocopup a couple of years ago. She's a very sensitive puppy. I open the back door for her morning run around and the cold air hits my face. It's really frosty outside and the water has frozen which I was doing last night but there's still no snow. "Okay go!" I throw the ball down the garden and she chases after it, sometimes I think she's half springer. I wrap my scarf around my neck because I know Lizzie's watching on the CCTV to see if I'm keeping warm and tie my coat around my waist. Lizzie brings the ball back and I throw it down the garden again. What I don't see is the black ice on the steps going down the grass and slip and fall landing on my bum. Shit.
Leia rushes to my side and drops the ball so she can sniff and lick me. I squint and rub my back "I'm okay. I'm okay" I tell her and scratch under her chin. I stand up slowly and brush myself down, I didn't land on my stomach so the baby should be okay. I hope. I pick up Leias ball and through it back down the garden but she doesn't leave me side "oh you silly sausage, I'm fine" she pants looking up at me with her big brown eyes "fine, you win. Let's go and get some breakfast" I follow her inside and lock the door behind me. I pour her Kimmel into her bowl and start on my own breakfast. Scrambled eggs with chives from the garden, that's what my mum always made me. Once it ready, I slat and pepper it quickly and shuvvel it down like I'm in a competition with a time limit to win money. Baby really is hungry this morning. I load the dirty things into the dishwasher and put it on since it's full now.
The doorbell rings waking me up "that must be grandma" I tell Leia and unlock it to answer. "Hey!" Jarnie cheers bringing me into a hug "hi. Come in" I move to the side and put my boots on "I'm sure you have but Lizzie wanted me to check you had you vitamins" I smile and look up at the ceiling "thought she might of, no I haven't. I'll go and take them now" I go into the kitchen and quickly chug them down with a glass of water. I don't need vitamins, Lizzie just feels better if I do take them so I do. Anything to keep the wifey happy. I grab my long black coat from the rack and put it on before doing up the buttons "ready?" "I think so" I grab my keys and lock the door. I wave bye to Leia who's sitting in the window watching jarnie take me to her car. "I though my lizard was getting you a new car?" "No I'm getting one but I'm not sure what make I like' I tell her buckling in "anyways, how have you been?" "Okay?" She smiles softly and turn the key to make the engine start "I know your struggling honey, I can tell. Do you want me to come over more often?" I shake my head "I'm managing just. What I'm missing most are the cuddles and dinners she makes" I share looking out the window at the trees as we drive past "how many weeks until she comes back?" "Three, she comes back on the 20th. I'll be ten weeks instead of nine which we both thought, Lizzie isn't too happy about it" "I'm sure she's not. You can come over whenever you want to, even if it's just for a drink and a catch up" I look at her and smile "I'll bare that in mind. Thank you" she smiles and goes into the right lane.
We arrive at the hospital, Jarnie grabs my bag from the boot and hands it to me "are you excited?' she asks as we walk over to the entrance "yeah, are you?" "Of course I am!" I chuckle and walk over to the reception desk. The woman looks up at me with a smile "y/n y/n/n, isn't it your day off?" "It is but I have an appointment for Dr Watson" I wait patiently whilst she looks it up "ah yes so you do. I didn't know your pregnant, congratulations" "thank you". I look back over to Jarnette and wave for her to come over, we both go into a smaller waiting room which is outside the ultrasound room. Jarnette takes out her phone and starts messaging someone "I'm just going to message Liz and tell her we're here" I nod and watch over her shoulder "do you think you could film it for her? So she feels like she was here" "yeah of course". My doctor comes out to get us so we both go in "good morning, how are you?" He asks sitting down on his stall "I'm good" I smile "have you been experiencing any sickness or headaches?' "yeah um alot of sickness. I've been sick every morning the past week and I sometimes feel a bit nauseous throughout the day" he writes it down on the clipboard "well as you know, that's all normal" I nod in agreement "we haven't met before, I'm Dr Watson y/ns ultrasound technician" "I'm Jarnette, Lizzie's mom" I smile hearing the name of my wife "oh right, it's very nice to meet you". I lay on the bed and lift my top up and Jarnie starts filming, I watch Dr Watson prepare for the exam "where is Lizzie?" "In Atlanta. She will be back in time for Christmas thankfully" she smiles and squeezes gel onto my stomach "I'm sure she's very worried about you. My ex was when he had to leave for work" I smile sheepishly and hold my top against my chest to it doesn't roll down. I look over at Jarnette who's smiling "ready?" I nod and look at the ultrasound on the screen. It takes her a while to find the fetus which my heart didn't breath atall for that couple of seconds but once she does it's the cutest little thing. I look over at jarnie who's biting her bottom lip whilst filming for her daughter "aww" she chokes whilst I'mesmarised by the screen. "Would you like to hear the heart beat?" She asks and I freeze, what should I do? If I listen to it Lizzie could hate me and I kind of want to wait for her. "I don't know. I kind of want to wait for Lizzie to get back and I don't want her to hear it from the phone" I tell her "I can mute it from here if you want. Lizzie wouldn't mind us listening to it, she'd want that reassurance aswell" jarnie smiles softly. I nod at the doctor who smiles and starts to play it, she turns the sound up and my eyes start watering. I look over at Jarnie who's smiling aswell "sounds like he or she's got hiccups" I laugh but go immediately quiet to listen to it again. That's my baby. Mine and Lizzie's baby. "Their perfectly healthy Mrs Olsen, there's nothing to be worried about atall. Measuring perfectly and have a strong beat" my heart swells hearing that "that's brilliant news" Jarnette smiles. The doctor hands me a tissue and I wipe the gel off my stomach "I'll see you in five weeks so the new year" I nod and pull me top down "sounds perfect. Thank you" she smiles and hands me two photos of the scans from today "I'm looking forward to seeing you again Dr Y/n/n" I follow Jarnie out and sigh in relief "that couldn't have gone any better" she whispers putting her arm over me shoulder "we could have seen two or three, that would have made it better" I share cheekily "I'm not sure how lizard would feel if she came back and you told her there was an extra baby that she had no idea about" I laugh and walk out into the carpark.
We get in the car and both us buckle in "hey. Um. I haven't been completely honest with you" I say turning red, jarnie nods turning the heating on meaning I should start "this morning when I let Leia out I slipped on some ice" she nods as tears fill my eyes "I didn't hit my stomach but my back aches so much because I hit it on one of the steps, I thought there was going to be something wrong. It would have been all my fault and noone would have forgiven me" I sob and bring my hands up to my face. Jarnie hugs me quickly and I lean my head on her shoulder "oh honey. It wasn't your fault. The baby's fine even if your not and to you, that's all that matters. Have you told Lizzie?" I shake my head "no. She'll probably start ringing me once she looks on CCTV fortaage" jarnie nod and strokes my hair "I want you to stay with me for a bit. Just until your backs better but your more than welcome to stay for longer. I'll drive you home and I'll help pack some bags and get Leias things ready. Does that sound okay?" I nod and hug her tightly "thank you". She pulls away and hands me a tissue "do you want me to check your back?" I nod and turn around in my seat so my backs facing her. She lifts up my top and her hands brush over it "there's some grazing where the skins come over. It's red but there's no bleeding. There's also a bit of swelling so when you get back I'll get you an icepack just to calm it down" I nod and turn back around "thanks" she smiles softly "no, thank you for telling me".
