Fate: The Alpha King and His Unexpected Mate

Chapter Seventeen

Lexi

Once we got back to the pack house, I went straight to the car for our suitcases. I rummaged through mine and grabbed a pair of shorts and a tank top. I went through Liam's and grabbed shorts and a t-shirt. Thankfully, Marc had a whole outfit on. He was a little more muscular than Liam and I wasn't sure if he would fit into Liam's clothes.

We went inside to change and then met Marc in the kitchen. I grabbed his hand while we led him to a good-sized building behind the pack house. This building was what we called the prison. It had a basement that held about thirty cells, which were made of silver to keep the prisoners from escaping. The top floor held a guard's station that had screens featuring cameras of all of the cells and interrogation rooms. There were five interrogation rooms upstairs that held a chair in the middle of the room with silver chains soaked in wolfsbane attached to the floor with reinforced steel. Finally, there was another room set up like an office where you could watch the video feed with audio from any of the interrogation rooms.

We walked to that office. My dad and Beta David were already in there. They had the camera to an interrogation room pulled up already and we could see the rogue chained in the chair. He was rather calm. Just staring straight ahead. If I didn't know any better, I would think he was willing to talk. Before I could say anything, my dad broke the silence.

"Marc, since you are the Alpha King, I figured you would want to interrogate him."

"Actually, let's see what he is willing to say first. Why don't you and Beta David start it off? I will be in here watching."

My dad nodded before he and David walked to the interrogation room. My dad had brought more chairs into the room, so we all sat down in front of the screen. We watched as they entered the room. They both leaned against the wall directly across from the rogue. A slow smile spread across the rogue's face as he looked at them. I started to get a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

"My name is Alpha Joe. I have a few questions for you."

"Go ahead, Alpha. I clearly have nowhere to go right now."

I rolled my eyes and muttered "smartass" under my breath when he shook his chained wrists in front of my dad. I could see Marc smirk and Liam chuckle. I'm sure Marc has done his fair share of interrogations with being the king. I have always just watched from this office. My alpha temper usually gets the best of me just while watching. I'm sure it wouldn't go well being in the interrogation room.

"Alright then. First things first. What is your name? Or should I just call you rogue?"

"My name is Ben. Thanks for asking."

"Alright Ben. Are you the same rogues that have been attacking all of the packs along my border?"

"We aren't the exact group, per se. But we are all from the same pack. With the same ruler."

"So, your target has always been my pack?"

"Not your pack as a whole. Just one specific member. I'm sure she is watching right now."

I could feel the tension and anger rolling off of Marc and Liam as the rogue smiled at the camera. He was clearly talking about me. They knew I was the alpha's daughter. But that wouldn't be a reason to come after me. There were a lot of alpha wolves with daughters. There would only be one reason why they would target me specifically.

"Why are you after my daughter?"

"Oh, don't play dumb, alpha. You aren't the only one who knows her secret."

"We just discovered this yesterday. The attacks started well before then. How could you rogues have known before us?"

"Our leader has friends in high places. Or more like knowledgeable family. Say, when was the last time you talked to your cousin, Alpha King?"

The rogue was looking at the camera with a smug smile on his face. I wanted to punch the smile right off. What the hell did Zachary have to do with this? How could he know that Lexi was a Lycan? I felt Lexi's hand on my arm.

"Marc, who is your cousin?"

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

"His name is Zachary. I haven't seen him in at least 15 years. My uncle's pack is in Georgia. I think my parents went to visit them a few years ago, after I had already been the king for a few years. I am just as confused as you. I'm not sure what Zach has to do with this. He is in line to be Alpha once my uncle steps down. I don't know why he would give that up to team with a bunch of rogues."

I watched as Lexi's brows furrowed in concentration. She was cute when she was deep in thought. She scrunches her nose and bites her lip. It's amazing to think that we have really only known each other for two days. I feel like I have known her for years. We still had so much to learn about each other, and Liam. I couldn't let these rogues or Zach hurt her. I was brought out of my thoughts when Lexi stood and leaned against the table that the monitor was sitting on.

"What if Zach hasn't abandoned his pack? What if he still intends to become Alpha, but wants to use me? My heirs are what will create a strong pack. Granted, his pack wouldn't be nearly as strong as ours since at least half of my pups would have the royal bloodline in them from you. But Lycans alone are strong."

Liam had been quiet, but I could see that he agreed with Lexi's theory.

"She has a point. Any Alpha would kill to have a Lycan for a mate. I just don't get how anyone could know. It seemed like Jack and your mom knew, or at least had heard theories. So, I feel like he would have gained insight from an older wolf. The theory is that the daughter of two alphas would be the next Lycan. I had no idea that Lexi's mom had alpha blood. Is it possible that he knows someone from her old pack?"

"I have no idea. Let me make a call."

I pulled my phone from my pocket and found the number I needed. It rang a few times before there was an answer.

"Dad, we need to talk to Uncle Zane."
