Lexi
"Marc?"
He took the paper from me and looked it over. I sat in my desk chair as he appeared to be mind linking someone. What the hell was this? There was no way this wasn't from Zachary. But how did it get here? Surely somebody would have noticed someone put an envelope on my desk.
"Liam, Daniel, Jared and Jess are on their way up. I want to keep this between the six of us for now. I want to know more about what Zach has planned before we worry the whole pack."
In what seemed like no time at all, the other four walked into our office. Jess was the first to reach me, with Liam close behind. Jared and Daniel went straight to Marc.
"Lex, are you alright? Your first official day and you are basically getting threats sent to you?"
Liam kissed my forehead before joining the guys. I grabbed my coffee and motioned for Jess to follow me to the seating area. I would let the guys talk through whatever they were going to talk through and then they could fill me in.
"Well, we are pretty sure it is from his cousin, Zach. The one who has been behind the rogue attacks. I mean, besides our packs, there really shouldn't be anyone else who actually knows that I am a Lycan. I just don't know how he got this letter here. Wouldn't someone have noticed a non-pack member coming into our office?"
I leaned back and took a long sip of my coffee. My first actual day acting as Luna was off to a fantastic start. I was purposely blocking the guys' conversation. I just needed a few minutes to myself.
'It will be alright Lexi. Our mates won't let anything happen to us.'
'I know, Lil. It is still freaky. I don't even know what all comes with being a Lycan, yet Zachary seems to know something?'
'Max says that Marc has a way to get some information.'
Before I could ask Lily what she meant, the guys joined us. Liam sat beside me on the love seat while Marc brought his desk chair over. Liam wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and I immediately felt myself relax. The mate bond was a wonderful thing. I rested my head on his shoulder and waited for Marc to begin. He smiled at me and then looked at everyone else.
"Well, I think we have all agreed that this has Zach's name all over it. There is no coincidence that this note ends up in our office, on Lexi's desk, on her first day as Luna. He has made it pretty clear with the rogue attacks that he wants Lexi. I still am not sure how he knows she is a Lycan, but we are going to find out. Liam, Jess, Lexi. You haven't been to most of the pack lands where the rest of the pack resides. We have a witch in our pack, who also happens to be Jared's aunt. I am going to have her get to work on finding out how this note ended up here, as well as seeing how Zach could have found out about Lexi. This doesn't leave this room. This stays between us until we have more insight."
Just then, a young woman walked into the office. You could see her resemblance to Jared, but she looked way too young to be his aunt. She looked like she was in her late twenties, maybe early thirties. Jared was at least late twenties just like Marc. She bowed her head to me and Marc.
"Alpha King. Where would you like me to start?"
"Whitney, you already know your Luna, Lexi. This is her other mate, Liam, and his sister, Jessica. Who I am sure you know is Jared's mate."
"I do. Hello everyone. Yes, I am Jared's aunt. Yes, I know I look too young to be his aunt. You could say I was the oops baby for my parents. I was only five when Jared was born. I was also the first witch in about two generations in our family. But we will have time to get to know each other later. Can I see the letter?"
Marc handed the letter to Whitney. I sat up a little straighter and watched what she did. She held the paper in the palm of her hands and closed her eyes. After a few seconds, there was a light glow radiating from her hands. Then there was what I could only describe as black smoke coming from the paper, but there was no fire or anything else that could explain the smoke. Then everything was back to normal. It couldn't have taken more than three or four minutes total.
"He definitely used a witch to get it here. It's a simple, but powerful spell for a seasoned witch. It could also be how he knew about Lexi. If he has a witch on his side, there is really no telling what he is planning next. I will of course do what I can to stay ahead. I will let you know what has been done, but it won't be anything that will hinder our pack business. It was nice meeting you all, and I can't wait to get to know you better."
Once Whitney shut the door behind her, we all sat in silence for a few minutes. I had been excited to jump into learning my place in this pack. That letter completely stole that excitement. I took a deep breath, calmed myself and drank the rest of my coffee. I was definitely going to need more coffee. I stood up, smoothed my shirt down and looked at Marc.
"Well, there is no use in worrying about this until Whitney can give us more insight. You all have training to get to. I have my own duties to start learning. Marc, could you ask your mom if she could bring more coffee with her? Or ask Jack if she can? I am going to need a lot more to get through this morning."
"Of course, Little Wolf. You three head to training. We can meet around let's say three to do a private training session and run. I want to keep anything related to Lexi's Lycan a secret for now. I don't think anyone in our pack would betray us. But if Zach has a witch on his side, there is no telling what he can find out. Jess, you can come back here after training and sit in on whatever my mom and Lexi go over pertaining to Luna duties. Something tells me that is more up your alley than hers."
"You know her so well already!"
Everyone laughed as they walked to the training grounds, leaving just Marc and I in the office. I made my way back to my desk and sat in my chair. It was very comfy. I turned the computer on, and saw that it was already logged in.
"You can go in and create a login whenever you want. I wasn't sure if I would actually be here with you today or how early you were going to want to jump into things. I figured it would just be easier to not have a login for now. It is completely clean. My mom downloaded everything onto a flash drive for you. Speak of the devil."
He rolled his eyes just as the door opened. In walked Jack, with a tray of coffee, sugar, cream and more muffins. Maggie followed and my jaw dropped when I saw the three gigantic binders in her hand.
"So, Lexi. Are you sure you are ready to be the new Luna?"
