Chapter 29: VR Simulation

Sometime later, after the paperwork is completed.

Idia sighs, "Whew... Okay, now that you've all signed, let's get these examinations going."

"The battle simulator and observation console are all set up," Ortho says.

"Kk. Split the subjects into two teams," Idia says, "We'll do the first test with Subjects A, C, and E. Then the next with Subjects B, D and H."

Then Idia turns to Ortho, "Ortho, show A, C, and E to the sim room."

"Roger!" Ortho salutes.

Then calls out, "Riddle Rosehearts. Azul Ashengrotto. Vil Schoenheit. Come on and follow me!"

"The rest of you can chill in this room. I'm gonna step out. Use the intercom by the door to call the staff if you need anything," Idia says.

Soon, Leona says, Hey, Acting Director. Shouldn't you at least leave us with a snack menu we can order from? We might get hungry."

"Ugh, there goes Leona Kingscholar, just doin' his thing! Sorry, that's not an option," Idia says.

Then let out a frown, "Sheesh... Doesn't he know you can't just eat whatever during an exam? Some people..." And mutters to himself.

India then walks through the electric doors as they open, and closes when they step out, leaving Leona, Jamil, and Briar in the meeting room.

"Good grief... Well, this is a fine mess we're in," Jamil says.

"Yeah, no kidding," Leona says.

"I agree," Briar says. She then says in her thoughts, "Grim, where are you?"

Meanwhile, in the halls.

One of the Charon Troopers asks, "Acting Director, what will Subject F's examination be? The medical team reports he is still asleep."

"Subject F..." Idia about to questions, but then remembers, "Right, Grim. I'm afraid the kitty's got too many variables. His command of magic is pretty mediocre. Nothing compared to the other guys. I doubt there's much point running him through the sims. You can just let him sleep for now. Just lemme know if he wakes up."

"Roger," The trooper says.

In the control room, Riddle, Azul, and Vil are in the simulation room with Ortho and some Technicians.

The first Technician says, "Ortho has brought Subjects A, C, and E to the simulation room."

"Instruments calibrated. Ready to collect data. Commencing recording at 2100," The second Technician says.

Idia appears on the monitor, "Testing, one, two... This is the control room. Do you read me?"

"This is the simulation room. We read you loud and clear. All subjects have been equipped with testing gear," Ortho says.

Meanwhile, Riddle, Azul, and Vil are in a large room at the moment.

"Excuse me, could the rest of us get a word in?" Vil asks, " First you bring us to this absurdly large room... Then you stick giant headsets on us. I can't see a thing in this."

"What are you going to do with us?" Azul asks.

"Surely you're going to make us fight each other," Azul replies.

But Ortho says "Not at all! You're wearing technomantic VR headsets. You'll be fighting enemies in virtual space."

"Virtual space?" Riddle questions.

"It's a lot faster to just do it than trying to explain it," Idia says.

Azul calls out, "Wait just a minute, Idia. Weren't you the one who said people should read manuals in their entirety?"

"Roger! Virtual enemy mode, standby," Ortho says, and calls out, "Commencing dive!"

Soon enough, Riddle, Azul, and Vil find themselves in a large room.

What is this place?!" Azul asks.

Just then, Ortho descends to where the boys are and says, "It's a virtual space crested with technomantic VR. We cut off your magic in the facility, but you can use it all you want here! And your real-world body won't sustain any damage, no matter how rough you get. So feel free to cut loose."

Then two Styx soldiers fly over.

Vil says, "I see, in that case... There's no need to hold back."

"I wasn't planning on it," Riddle says.

"Here goes!" Vil says and brings out his magepen.

He then fires the first magic at Ortho and the soldiers.

Riddle and Azul do the same. Of course, Ortho and the two soldiers fire their own magical abilities at the three. The three students dodge the attack and fire their magic. Since they can use their magic, there's no holding back. Of course, the two opponent groups continue to fight against each other. At the same time, everything Riddle, Azul, and Vil do are being monitored by Idia and the Technicians.
