Chapter 55: Beauteous Escape

Meanwhile, in the private room, Vil is staying in, the power has gone out.

Vil quickly notices it, "The power went out? What kind of cutting-edge facility has a power outage?"

And then, he hears a loud banging sound, "Hm?! What was that?!"

. As he wonders what the noise is, the choker deactivates and falls off of Vil's neck.

Vil looks to notice it, "Huh... My choker came off."

He then casts a little bit of magic, "I've got my magic back."

But then the alarm goes off.

"Now there's an alarm?! Just what is happening out there?!" Vil questions, unsure of what's happening."

"I'll try paging the staff..." Vil then tries to page the staff through the intercom, but to no avail.

"Hmm, no luck there. The intercom's not getting any power," Vil replies.

He then tries the door, "And the door's locked..."

But he quickly remembers, "Oh, wait. That's right.I've got these products here. Like this toner..." and holds the product.

He then says, "I lose naught and fear naught. This shining crown was made for me."

And casts his magic on the product,"Fairest One of All. Anything that touches this toner will instantly dissolve into nothing. Now I'll just apply some to the lock..."

Vil does just that, and as the toner makes contact with the lock, the lock begins to dissolve until it's nothing.

"And voilà. It has dissolved. Just a little bit is all it takes," Vil says.

Vil then walks out of the room and into the hall. He searches around, and soon notices the condition of one of the doors.

"The door at the end of the hall has been completely destroyed..." Vil says, "What kind of subject was kept there, I wonder? This is all very odd. While it works in my favor, a subject has escaped. Yet there's no alarm and no staff scrambling to deal with it. For now, I'd best release the others from their rooms. I believe Jamil was in the one next to mine..."

And soon, Vil uses the toner and his magic to melt the lock and free Jamil.

"Jamil, are you all right?" Vil asks.

Jamil turns to see Vil and asks, "Vil! What's going on? What was that alarm and all that shaking?"

"We'll discuss after we get the others," Vil says.

Soon enough, thanks to Vil's magic and toner, Briar, Riddle, Leona, and Azul are free from their rooms.

"That's everyone," Vil says.

"Thank you for getting us out," Birar says.

"You're welcome," Vil says.

Leona sniffs a bit and looks at the room with the door destroyed, "Who was in the room at the end of the hall? I'm gettin' a whiff of some vaguely familiar magic..."

"I haven't the faintest idea. The door was already destroyed by the time I got out, and no one was in there," Vil says.

"Whoever they were, they blew a door made with anti-magic materials clean off. They must be quite the formidable mage," Azul says.

And Jamil says, "We shouldn't assume the other subjects would be able to think and reason like us. We need to stay sharp."

"I'm concerned about the escaped subject, but we do have more pressing matters," Riddle says.

"Agreed. There's a distinct miasma hanging in the air," Azul points out.

"That's high-density blot, all right," Leona says.

"...Do you think something's gone wrong at Tartarus? There are supposedly over 10,000

Phantoms there," Riddle questions.

"It's possible," Azil says.

"We don't want to inhale too much of this stuff," Vil says. "Since we can use magic now, I suggest we change into our dorm uniforms. They have strong magical defenses."

With a work of magic, all the boys are wearing their dorm uniforms. Except for Briar, she is simply wearing her school uniform.

"We were also able to summon the magical pens Styx confiscated from us. It was worryingly easy. Something is definitely afoot," Riddle says.

"You're right. And we need to find Grim, and the others for that matter," Briar says.

"You're right. Rook, Epel, and the others must be around here, and we need to find out where they're hiding Grim. However, we need to be very careful and try to not let your guard down for any attackers," Riddle says.

And right on cue, something or someone says, "Magic readings detected within 10-meter radius."

"What?!" Vil exclaims.

Everyone turns their heads to see a Charon soldier, The soldier says, "Target confirmed. Eliminating immediately."

"Uh oh," Briar says.

"And now we need to fight him," Jamil says.

"We'll have to defeat him together," Azul says.

And with that, the group begins to fight the soldier with their magic. And since there's six of them, taking it down seems kind of easy.
