He was floating. It reminds him of the days in the dorms where he'd wake up to the sun warming his face and his body being comfortably hugged by his mattress. The feeling was a dream itself, one he had forgotten ages ago but embraced so easily.
The stillness of his body and deep relaxation of his bones was what startled him to fully awake. He came to the slow realization that he was being carried, and once that fact settled in, his body turned to an intense thrumming of adrenaline and panic.
He was being kidnapped. Izuku had no idea how or when, but why else would he be on someone else's back? He couldn't believe he had been stupid enough to let his guard down. He should know far better by now.
Izuku's eyes snap open. He twists his body to the side so his legs are wrapping around the person's torso. He then proceeds to put both legs on the ground and flips the person on to the ground.
"What the fuck-" yells the oddly familiar voice. Izuku breathes hard, and it is then that he remembers where he was, and who he was with.
Which meant that he had just tackled Kacchan.
Izuku gulps. He was a goner. This was it. Katsuki was going to bury him alive.
He scrambles to apologize, "Kacchan, I'm so sorry, I thought-" he was being kidnapped, but what sane person would have that as their first thought when they woke up to being carried by someone?
Maybe he had lost his sanity. It wouldn't surprise him, especially when there were times when he felt so out of body that he didn't feel human at all. Maybe he's lost his humanity altogether.
He tries not to think about it too much.
"The one time I tried to be nice, and you tackled me to the ground! Damn Nerd!" Izuku winces, offering his hand to help Kacchan up.
Katsuki stares at it, melancholy swirling in his ruby eyes. It's then that Izuku realizes that Katsuki remembering wasn't a dream. It was real. So very real.
Offering his hand to help Kacchan has just become so much more. It was a symbolization of everything they were, of what they will become. Children in a river, students trying to deal with what life was becoming, a promise to be together.
They were walking around the campus. Both had decided to ditch their friends at lunch in order to spend some time alone with one another. They've been dating for a month and no one has a clue that they've become more than rivals. It's a mystery that no one's figured it out, with how snoopy the class was.
They were holding hands. Katsuki's smooth, warm hand squeezing gently on Izuku's rough, scarred one."We should do this more often," Izuku had said. It wasn't often that they got time alone together, especially with such a tranquil setting.
"I wouldn't mind getting away from those extras now and again," Katsuki grins.
Izuku bumped into him playfully with his shoulder, "You love them."
Katsuki stays silent. Izuku looks at him questionaly, feeling Katsuki's hand squeeze his tighter, but not uncomfortably so.
He stops walking, and Izuku stops with him. "Kacchan?" He asked. Katsuki's face was relaxed but serious, an expression not often found on him.
Katsuki lifts their joined hands in front of them, and makes eye contact with him.
"I love you," he had whispered like it was a secret meant for only them to share. Izuku's breath faltered, his heart skipping multiple beats.
Surprisingly, Izuku's eyes hadn't watered. He grinned so big that his cheeks had hurt. He squeezed Katsuki's hand in return.
