It had been a few days since I met Chan. I had yet to meet the other members of Stray Kids, but Felix. I was excited to meet them whenever they were free, and if they were anything like Felix or Chan then I would get along with them just fine. Before I left the studio, Chan gave me his number and I was honoured to have such a cool hyung.
It was the day I was going to the first set in Seoul, and I was spending the day meeting the crew and my co-stars. I was nervous to meet the senior actor who would be my love interest. Ha Ji-won who was born late 70's and was an exceptional actress was my love interest, and she was near my mother's age.
As I moved around the set, I was dressed in the uniform designated for our drama—a crisp white shirt accompanied by a neatly pressed blazer that brought back memories of my own school days. My hair was styled impeccably, and my makeup was carefully done, yet I still felt a sense of nostalgia, as I resembled the student I had once been. I quietly explored the premises, taking in the memories that lingered within the halls, while patiently waiting for my co-stars to finish their makeup.
Throughout the process, I had the opportunity to meet the director along with the stylists, all of whom exhibited a genuine warmth and kindness. Their approachable demeanour alleviated any nerves I had about the upcoming shoot. It's always reassuring to form a connection with those who will be responsible for our presentation on screen; it creates a collaborative atmosphere that fosters creativity and comfort. The excitement for what was to come buzzed in the air as I soaked in the atmosphere of the set.
"Korain?" I turned to the voice I had already heard before. It was So-Joon, the beginner actor who was older than me and playing the second male lead.
His role wasn't involved with the romance, he was just playing my 'best friend' who would stir some drama towards the end of the show. It would do me well to get along with him so we can show our chemistry on screen. I smiled and walked over to him. Despite him being older, he was shorter than me by just a few centimetres, and the stylists had made him very cute. The front of his hair was tied back, showing his forehead.
"Hello So-Joon ssi!" I said and we awkwardly hugged and then laughed afterwards.
"Hyung is fine!" He said with a cute smile and I nodded.
"Have you seen the set hyung? I want to go inside!" I said and turned to the school behind us. He turned as well, and lifted his hand to his forehead to cover his eyes from the sun. Despite it being September, it was still quite sunny.
"Yeah. Me too! Should we ask?" He said and bumped my shoulder. I smiled and nodded. We turned to a large group of production workers and asked kindly if we could venture inside.
"Sure, but don't move anything please!" One workers said and we bowed politely.
"RACE YOU!" So-Joon shouted as he took a head-start and started running to the main entrance to the school. I immediately ran behind him.
As we stepped into the main lobby of the school, the atmosphere was a blend of nostalgia and excitement. The reception area was quaint, with an old wooden desk. After passing through, we entered a spacious room lined with rows of lockers, their wooden doors slightly rusted.
Inside each locker, we discovered neatly arranged slippers, or indoor shoes, waiting to be worn. Though the set we were about to explore was abandoned and the slippers weren't strictly necessary, we felt it was important to respect the space and its history. Carefully, we switched from our outdoor shoes into the cosy footwear, eager to wander the intriguing set, mindful of the stories and memories that lingered in the air around us.
"Woah, you look like a proper student." So-Joon said and he laughed as he sneaked a photo of me.
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from So-Joon, but his friendly and vibrant personality exceeded my anticipations. I found myself genuinely enjoying my time with him; he radiated the lively energy typical of a school kid, which made our interactions feel effortlessly exciting. Yet, as I reflected on our time together, I realized that perhaps this very exuberance was why he didn't fit the mould of the main character, while I did.
I loved having a good time, without a doubt, but I was drawn more towards interests that aligned with a more mature mindset than what most of my peers embraced. While they were out partying or mingling until the early hours, I wasn't ever keen on that lifestyle. Instead, I went through an unusual phase where I immersed myself in the world of cinema. I would often analyse films in-depth, passionately sharing my thoughts with my parents about what made a movie exceptional or why it fell flat.
"I guess. I'm only 20. You're old." I joked and I watched So-Joon dramatically gasped.
"I'm only 22!" He said back loudly, and we laughed as we walked further through the school.
We entered a classroom on the third floor of the school, and we sat towards the back at some desks. I sighed as I looked out the window to my right, and I took in the autumn scenery. I looked back at So-Joon who was looking outside too.
"Have you read through the script hyung?" I asked and he turned to me with a 'duh' face so I laughed.
"Yeah, we have a lot of scenes together so let's get along well Korain-ah." He said and I nodded happily.
"Yeah, and then we have to meet Ha-Jiwon. I'm nervous to meet her. I wonder if she's nice." I said nervously, and So-Joon was feeling the same as he pretended to shiver.
"Of course I'm nice!" I turned quickly to the high-pitched voice by the door. Both of us immediately stood up and bowed deeply to our sunbae, "I came to introduce myself."
"Hello sunbaenim." I spoke up nervously first and she came to us and we shook hands with her gently, "Korain-imida."
"Hello Korain-ah and So-Joon-ah?" She said politely and So-Joon nodded happily and shook her hand.
"Ha Jiwon, nice to meet you and I'm looking forward to working with you both. Let's do a good job!" She said with the biggest smile on her face and we nodded.
All three of us sat at a desk, and we made conversation about the sets, our schedules, outfits, makeup and our lines. The overall thoughts of the story and what we were nervous about. It's good to tell stories and worries before working properly on scenes so that we can work together to ease each others' worries.
My phone dinged in my pocket.
ChannieHyung: Hey Rain-ah, I'm free this afternoon is you want to work on the song?
I smiled.
Korain: Of course. I finish on set after 5pm! I'll let you know when I'm nearby!
~ Introducing some of the actors in the story. Before the Chapter starts, there's a photo of Korain and So-Joon but sometimes they dont work for people so I'll put the photo below too!
