Ladybug -- or Marinette for that matter, let out a tiny, incredulous giggle that sounded halfway between disbelief and choking on a piece of croissant.

"Gabriel Agreste?" she seemed to think I was joking. "You might as well just call Chat Noir -- Adrien Agreste or something."

I laughed at the humour of the situation, whereas, Chat Noir just stood shell-shocked. He looked more like the comic-relief sidekick than ever.

"That's insane, Y/N," Chat Noir blinked, bemused. "I don't think Gabriel has it in him to be Hawkmoth. He's barely even present enough to be a father."

"Yeah," I nodded slowly. "Why do you think he's such a bad father? Because he spends all his time akumatizing innocent children." I crossed my arms, narrowing my eyes at Ladybug. "C'mon stop laughing. I know I'm right." I smirked. "Oh, and how do you know he's a bad father? Unless...he's your father."

Ladybug had now nearly passed out from laughter. Tears were beginning to puddle at the corners of her eyes and she was bent over, hands on knees. "You're killing me, Y/N. Seriously though." Ladybug pulled herself together. "Anyone else really, could be Hawkmoth. But Gabriel? He's just not the type."

I gritted my teeth, looking up at the sky. (Y/N casually breaks the fourth wall and glares at the writers.) Since when are they a couple of blind idiots? (since forever.)

"Okay, I get it." I rolled my eyes. "It's really, really hard to believe." I gently nudged Chat Noir's arm with my elbow. "Hypothetically, Chat Noir, you might not want to believe that someone close to you is capable of something so evil." I emphasized the 'hypothetical' part. "But...isn't it worth looking into?"

"No," Chat Noir's jaw had set, and I could tell he was close to anger. "Gabriel Agreste isn't Hawkmoth. He's just a miserable, lonely man who spends all his time locked up in his house designing things and forcing his child to model."

I sighed. "I'm asking you both to trust me on this."

"And I'm telling you, that's ridiculous," Ladybug assured me. "How would you even know anything about Hawkmoth or Gabriel Agreste?"

"I know a lot of things," I chewed on my bottom lip. "At least think about it, yeah?" I turned on my heel, walking away.

The sky seemed a lot more grey as I made my way back up to my  house. I could feel the superheros' eyes watching me as I retreated, but the air of disbelief was still potent. I knew it would take a lot more evidence to get them to believe me. How I would get that evidence was an entirely different question. One that I wasn't quite ready to figure out yet.

I lay facedown on my bed, staring into the darkness of my pillow. How the fuck had I gotten myself into this mess, and how was I going to get myself out of it? Well. There was no way out. I'd just have to put an end to it once and for all. And then, maybe I'd be free to love and hate and everything in between without worrying about the fate of the world.

My phone buzzed and I flipped it over. There were two messages, one from Adrien and one from Luka.

The message from Adrien read -- Can we talk?

The one from Luka was simpler. You busy?

I answered 'sure', and slipped my favourite hoodie on, making my way downstairs. Mom was sitting at the table, eating a blueberry muffin. She smiled at me as I passed.

"You'll be home for dinner, right, Y/N?"

"Of course," I was relieved that at least this part of my life was normal still.

"I'm making your favourite," Mom said, taking another bite of her muffin. "See you soon, honey."

"Bye, Mom," I opened the door, stepping out into the brisk cold again. Winter was just around the corner, and it's icy chill was beginning to seep into my bones.

Spring was when everything was sure to pick up again, but I had time before then. Time to change things.

Luka was waiting for me under the bridge, his guitar for once not slung over his shoulder. He looked kind of bare without it, hands shoved into his pockets instead of fiddling with a pick. His cheeks were tinged pink from the cold.

"Hey," Luka smiled at me, his eyes warming. "Eventful day?" he  looked me over once. "I heard about the fire. The Ladyblog posted quite the picture of you and Chat Noir."

"What?" My eyes widened. "Can I see?"

Luka showed me a picture of Chat Noir holding me as he leapt from the building. I looked like the typical damsel in distress, a thought that was less than comforting.

"Great," I rolled my eyes. "Now everyone's going to think there's something going on with me and Chat fucking Noir."

Luka chuckled, raising his eyebrows. "Is there?"

His eyes flicked to mine, and then down to my lips briefly before he looked away. The truth was that there wasn't. At least not now.

I stepped forward. "No. Why do you ask?"

Luka held my gaze for longer this time. "I was kinda hoping you would say that."

"Oh?"

He lowered his head slightly until his hair brushed the tips of his eyelashes. "Y/N, I really like you. You're my favourite melody...and I can't get you out of my head."

I couldn't tell if the increase of my heartbeat was a good thing or a bad thing. I remembered his exact words from the last time he told me this.. I remembered how we only lasted three months before everything went down. Before Seth moved in and I became Raven. Would it all be the same?

At this point, I was tired of thinking about it.

Luka was safe, and he certainly didn't have a chance of causing the end of the world. Because of that, I needed him as an escape from the pressure of saving Adrien.

Luka's breath caught in his throat as he waited for my answer. I took a step forward, grabbing the fabric of his hoodie.

When his lips met mine it was less passion as it was comfort. But it was something, and something was all I was asking for.
